No offline viewing? I’m canceling...

Kirchgoens

I travel heavily overseas in areas with bad and expensive internet, yet Net Geo killed this key element of the app. The elimination of offline viewing is a deal breaker for me.

Honesty

bobleflambeur65

Almost the lowest rating in the App Store. Many would give 0 stars if possible. Long time subscriber asking for honesty. Will you never restore download for offline viewing? Just tell us the truth, please.

Bait and Switch - DO NOT BUY

iPadit

Updating for version 3.0.9 ?????????? Minor tweaks, but the magazine is still not available for download. I guess NG is still looking into it....... Updating for version 3.0.8 ?????????? Sadly, the full magazine is still not available to read or download. Do not buy if you want the real National Geographic Magazine, this is only a small subset. Sad that the developer response states they are still “looking into” making it available to download. How about finally making a decision and announcing it? (Corrected error) Updating for version 3.0.7 ?????????? The full magazine is still not available, do not buy if you want the real National Geographic Magazine, the is only a small subset. Updating for version 3.0.6: Sadly still no option to download the magazine, and I really mean The Magazine, The Yellow Frame as some call it. This app provides articles in the magazine, but you do not get to experience the entire magazine as it is presented in print. That is a real shame since that is all that everyone posting the negative reviews really wants. I know the developer responses state they are evaluating future changes to do that, but it’s about time that a decision is made to either do it or not. Stop stringing us along. Make a decision and we can all move on and decide if this app is really worth it or we should go back to ordering print copies. And if this is really about constraints imposed by Apple, then maybe Apple should chime in and say so. UPDATING FOR VERSION 3.0.5: Still junk, just tried the update hoping for some improvements, but the app can’t connect due to “network connectivity issues” which is a good reason for having offline access to the magazine. But that still doesn’t exist based on other reviews. ******************************** Recent app update removes the capability of offline reading; you cannot download the magazine to your iPad and read it without being connected to the internet. Terrible “reimagined” experience. Did NatGeo inform us of this before renewing for 2019? Of course not because most would not have purchased. I also fault Apple for not putting the most recent reviews first in their store so potential buyers can see the latest reviews rather than seven years ago.

1.4!Stars and Falling - You ruined it and Don’t Listen.

I have not been on for a few months and came back to a garbage app. I have been a subscriber to the magazine since 1990. I have been a digital subscriber since the third issue. This used to be the model. No it is just web articles. It had great interactive features, videos and top notch writing and photos. Now it is just a commodity item. I can’t read offline. I used to love taking the magazine on my phone backpacking. I loved how reading on an iPad in the coffee shop, it felt like the magazine. This is terrible and I am so sad. I read an article and go away and it forgets my spot. Sometimes it logs me out. Really? What happened to the editors article and the best your shot image? Come on you can do better. This app is worthless. ? 2/27 - I just brought my iPad to my sons snowboard class, hoping to catch up while he was out. No WiFi and my iPad does not have cell service. Guess what I get to read. NOTHING. come on Nat Geo - Fix this and at least make offline reading available. 4/1 - Checked back to see if you made any updates. No and by your comments you aren’t reading or listening. 1.4 stars for Nat Geo. You should be appalled and ashamed of yourself. You can do better. Start with offline reading. 4/30 - We are all waiting for the downloads to come back. I received you canned response about maybe doing something to restore downloads and hopefully all the issues you stole from me. Will it happen? I am heading backpacking soon and looking forward to reading some articles on the trail at night? Getting very close to canceling. 5/13 - Went to read the April issue and found out my subscription expired. Should I let my 30 year subscription lapse. Seems about time. No response and no changes. Your rating is now 1.4 stars. I am truly saddened by the loss of the greatest magazine that was ever produced. 7/29 - I have seen and heard your messages about offline reading in the future. I am waiting. It has been 6 months and nothing has happened. You can do better. I will be taking my 3rd trip with no access to the Internet and no offline reading. Terrible.

Tired of this

roopad

So tired of the laziness of app developers who can’t take the minute to tell us what they really fixed or added. I’m sure that they wake up with my best interest in mind, then spell out what you did to the app. Getting to that place that if you can’t take the time to write down what is new or changed, I am not taking the time to update your app, or I’ll just delete it so I won’t be bothered with “we are so dedicated to you our customer we made this update, but I can’t tell you what we did.”

Bad Archive

NatGEO_AC

I read back issues regularly. This app does not contain the complete archive like I can get through my desktop. Will be deleting.

Jumped ship to ZINIO

iGreeley

(Update) now on Zinio. Can download the magazine and read offline. Works flawlessly. I don’t regret leaving at all. I was hoping that I could download a magazine for offline reading, but alas no. After 6 months of “we’re evaluating” (sounds like a no to me), I want to read the magazine on my summer trips. With ZINIO I actually can.

Took a great app and totally ruined it.

Dock 100

This app is a waste of time for a great magazine. Not friendly, intuitive, and you can’t download for later reading.

No ability to download

David918273645

I don’t have anything brilliant to add to the other reviews here. I have every issue of National Geographic from July 1976 to the present. The previous version of the app allowed you to download the magazine to read offline. The “upgrade” does not allow it. I haven’t read the magazine for several months now because I like to read it on my train where I don’t have internet service. How difficult can it be to make an app that allows downloads? Most other publications seem to have figured it out!

Beautifully made!

I see all of the single Star reviews here, and I just have to ask myself: why? It isn't slow, which is new. Most apps have some sort of lag. It has clear text and photos. Easy to read, easy to see, enjoy, and scroll. Just like the website, but better! I prefer scrolling rather than the book format some others like. It has a search area, so you can find what you want to read. Here is what I think should be added. I think there should be a reading list, or a place to save articles so you don't have to search every time. That would be great ?! Anyway, I give it 5 stars all the way! I recommend it to all!
