I Don't Get the Fuss

Daoud

We've been using Manything on two ancient iOS devices to monitor a remote farm house. Setup was easy and it has performed flawlessly for us. For those whose complaint is that there is a fee, I have this message: Sheesh! Firstly, the service is inexpensive. Secondly, If security and peace of mind aren't worth anything to you then of course you are not the target audience for this app.

Considerably cheaper if you already have the hardware

Compared to a monitored home security system, Manything's pricing is a bargain. I've had five cameras uploading continuously for 4 months. My only feedback is that an iPhone 4s will overheat at anything above room temperature if configured to continuously upload at full bandwidth, whereas an iPhone 5 won't overheat even when placed in an enclosed Pelican case outside in the summer in northern Georgia. Can't really blame Manything for the older hardware, except that maybe they should have a one-time popup that says "Hey, just a heads up, your older phone is more likely to overheat than a newer model." Also, Manything mentions numerous times to use the original charger... they aren't kidding: low-quality charges greatly increase overheating potential. So yes, there are some hardware overheating limitations when using older iPhones, but from a software perspective Manything is exactly what I'm looking for and at an excellent price. There are some software differences between the iPhone viewer app and the desktop web portal... I'd like to see both experiences share the same feature set. For example, you can't presently scrub through recording history on the iPhone app.

Flakey

Unreliable. Streaming will randomly hang and just show the same still forever while by all other appearances seem to be working fine. So you think you're safe and monitoring, but you're not.

Still works great

I have been using Manything for 2 years now. It has always worked pretty well for me. My older iPhones (4s) work great with this app (I use some attachable zoom and fish eye lenses). It's great to check various spots on my property. Great support for the few times I have had to contact them.

Change of terms

They keep decreasing what you get for what you pay for. I'm down to 2 days of saved cloud space for 5$ a month.

Not able to work in the background

Vcerna

Disappointed that this app can not work in the background. The app has to be running in the foreground where anybody could tap the screen and have access to the phone and its contents. Might be an acceptable feature at home but not an office or workplace. Would love to be able to set a clock on the screen or the ability to lick the screen with a password or code.

Great App

I have used this App for many months with great success. Easy to set up and reliable. Occasionally I lose a camera for a period of time but it is usually from a WiFi signal loss. Great response from their help department when I needed it. Great use for old iPhones that you still keep in a drawer.

Works well, easy, smooth

It works as advertised and really helps monitor my cats and worked in a pinch. Billing was straightforward and scales.

Bad to worse

UPDATE: on iOS 11.0 App has deteriorated even further with release of iOS 11.0. Clips often turn to black now in addition to even worse levels of jerkiness as described below. App is virtually unusable now. What an utter waste of time. Reducing to 1 star and cancelled subscription. _____ ORIGINAL: on 10.3.3 Latest version of the app is EXTREMELY jerky when scrubbing through clips. This occurs on both iPhone 7 and iPad Air 2, both on 10.3.3, even after deleting and reinstalling the app. Prior to this update, when scrubbing through a clip the app was always silky smooth. But now scrubbing through a clip constantly results in random jerkiness and hang-ups, inevitably causing inadvertent skips to the next or previous clip as the app hangs and your gesture turns into a swipe. Once or twice of this nonsense is ok, but when you're reviewing hundreds of clips and this is repeated hundreds of times, it quickly becomes a frustrating and colossal waste of time. Another needed change is clear functional distinctions in the ui between scrubbing and swiping. Far too often (especially in this latest version as described) it is way too easy to turn a scrub into a swipe. This is poor design resulting in unacceptable performance. I will not renew my subscription and start looking for alternatives if the jerkiness is not fixed. If fixed, I'll stick around as well as change my rating.

Works well with older phones

I use this app with a couple of 4s’s on iOS 9. The phones have been running 24/7 for over 1 year now without issues. I like that you can view live stream from the app and the web. Overall, a great idea to be able to repurpose older phones. Hopefully in future releases, the developers can provide 720p or even 1080p options.
