Best app to learn hiragana and katakana

Update: Current version hangs while doing a review. At some point (maybe 10-15 questions in) giving the correct answer doesn’t advance the quiz to the next question. Also, for answers where the sentence is “played back” to you, if you skip the next question before the voice has finished saying the phrase then the next question will say the same phrase again. These issues, specially the first one, breaks the experience. Otherwise this would be a 5 star rating. ==== Works great. I’ve tried several apps to learn hiragana and so far this is the best one. I memorized all hiragana and katakana in just one week! Highly recommended.

I like it, it's effective. It teaches you how to write them as well as the pronunciation. It's very nice.

You get the first lessons on hiragana and katakana, and that’s it. The rest is behind a $2 purchase. Very good app though, it’s just not really free.

Japanese is flaky and not smart

The Japanese words aren’t ones you’d often use, and the app doesn’t learn from what you get right/wrong. It doesn’t teach you as much as quiz you, and the audio is glitchy, sometimes disappearing entirely. It doesn’t say what the words mean either. Having said that, it was enjoyable to a certain degree.

Good Repetition, but a bit Buggy

So, I downloaded this app to learn the hiragana and katakana by pure repetition. I am pleased with the format. I have noticed a couple of bugs that are obnoxious. One being that the phone senses touches too soon after new characters are introduced. This will cause me to not be able to select one of the 4 options, and I will just skip to the next exercise. Next, is an issue that normally requires the app to be shut down or results in a crash of the app. The display image will not change, it will ask for new information... which you cannot see what you are supposed to input... New exercise request on the old screen. I generally have to shut the app down, and my progress is lost. I think this usually happens during reviews, but more data is necessary to confirm.

I purchased the full app and it’s been totally worth it. My only issue is when it asks you to write certain hiragana it is too sensitive and counts your answer as wrong when it’s actually correct. The ones that I’ve had problems with are は, ま, and ほ. It makes review frustrating because it won’t move forward. I don’t like writing the same hiragana 10+ times when I got it right the first time! Otherwise, GREAT app.

One a problem with ”o” hiragana I already knew it on the pen but keeping says wrong. So I already deleted the app and download back again, so I already pay it for all unlocked, but why I have to pay it over again?

こにちわ！ I am still learning my basic hiragana... But I am proud to say that both the app and in app purchase were totally worth it! I am learning so much. But one thing that really aggravates me is the perfection on the A in hiragana. Whenever I put my hand not on the exact spot needed, it starts me over. I mean, I’ve reviewed many times. Can I just, like, skip? For five months, I have been searching for a app that could teach me Japanese. I finally found this amazing app in which could not be better!
