Needs an update

I love this app but now it does not work with ios11. For now the app doesn’t work at all

Pretty good
mrbass.org

I still have my Cannon WordTank 9000 which I bought for $350 but that was back in the day. I remember studying kanji all the time on the subway and train. Oh how I wish I had this back then.

nice, but could use example sentences
nlieu

With the JLPT coming up in a few weeks, I was looking for something to help me boost my vocabulary and kanji without having to connect to the internet so I could use it on my commute to and from school, and this looks like it will do the job. I'm glad that this app has the option to choose if you got it right or wrong, but it would be nice to have a few more levels of whether we know it or not (the site I use for kanji has unread, read, familiar, mastered, and review folders to sort the cards into). It would also be nice to have example sentences for the words because for a lot of JLPT questions, you have to be able distinguish between words that may have very similar definitions in English, but different usages in Japanese. Still, this saves me the trouble of having to buy a flashcard app and make my own flashcards. Thanks for making this app!

Great (and addictive) learning tool; super responsive developer
Kyoto_boy

Japanese Flip is the best application available on iTunes for studying JLPT vocabulary. It runs smoothly with no hiccups and after using it for an hour a day for three days my passive vocabulary improved enormously. Passing level 1 will consume much less of my time than it otherwise would have. It only has 6,000 of the 10,000 words on the JLPT and as of this review there are no example sentences, but it's still an excellent program and the developed seems set on adding these features and other in the near future. I gave it five stars not because it couldn't benefit from more features but because it does everything it claims to well and because the program's developed actually read my feedback and responded immediately. This program will continue to improve. Buy it now. It's worth your while.

Jump-start your Japanese language study
MBM11

I have studied Japanese off/on for many years. I have more comprehensive study programs but find myself USING "Japanese Flip" every day since installed. It has rekindled my Japanese study and for that alone it is worth the price of admission. Andre Khromov delivers as represented in the description.

well worth it
Kyotoite

This is the best Japanese related app I've found. Very easy to use. Great for getting in a little vocab practice in your spare time. I would highly recommend it.

Excellent
Tele-Pet

The way that Kanji Flip databanks words you know, as well as the ones you tend to have trouble with, is ingenious. It's very gratifying to watch your stats improve as you are able to recognize more and more words. Anyone studying Japanese would enhance their studies with this app. Much recommended! Update: Just wanted to add that since writing my initial review I emailed the developer with a question and was very pleased to quickly receive a thoughtful and helpful response. Also, I'd like to stress, just as other reviewers have, that this is not merely a flashcard program. Japanese Flip is a sophisticated learning program that helps you learn new words while also focusing on the ones you're having trouble with.

Great!

This is really a great app for drilling vocabulary, particularly if you're taking/thinking about taking the JLPT. The new feature that allows you to choose whether or not to display furigana is fantastic -- I tend to use it both modes: 'on' so that I can absorb the sound-meaning connection, and then 'off' to quiz myself on the kanji. If you have a complaint about the lack of romaji, think twice; learning hiragana and katakana shouldn't take more than a few weeks, and it's 100% worth the effort (use Kanji drill for some good practice!).

Quite a fantastic, addicting app
BboyDubC

This app is VERY addictive for a Japanese learner of several years. I have been usin it non-stop at every free moment since I got it. Why only 3 stars? Well, I don't think the developer should be quite complacent yet. This needs a couple things. Browse mode should allow you to browse according to the 4 different categories (recent, older, etc.) instead of just all. How else can you review words you've learned recently. Someimes I don't want to get new words slipped in when I just want to review, and there is no way to control where you are in the default browser except by MANUALLY going from start to end. What an oversight and a wasted feature opportunity. Severely misses the mark. Also, as a few have said, where are the example sentences? It's hard to know how to use some words to actually add it to your vocab. Lastly, what is up with the price. Sure I think there is value in it but most people aren't going to commit to something this expensive on a whim. Lower the price so more can appreciate this great app. I'd gladly up the review score if some of these things are addressed.

The Interface is not the best
jbucaran

The application is not bad at all however the interface needs to be reworked soon because the whole learning experience is affected. iPhone users like beautiful and stunning applications.
