Great Application

cassabova1

If you want to learn Japanese words for the JLPT or just for expanding your vocabulary this is a solid application with a fantastic teaching method. Extremely friendly interface that is easy to use and doesn't get in the way of the material. I like how it displays the word counts on the right to indicate how you're getting along in your studying. The auto progress tracking is far above the flashcard applications out there for Japanese.

Excellent program with only one thing missing

I am currently using this program to help me pass JLPT 2. I can feel it already helping on my 2nd day of using it. HOWEVER, the one thing this program could really use, especially since it's aimed at people studying for the JLPT, is EXAMPLE SENTENCES!! Pleaaaase update.

Outstanding Application for Learning Kanji and Additional Vocabulary

The few dollars this cost was an excellent investment. This application is for serious students who have progressed to the point of reading Japanese. This application is not for the absolute begginner. It assumes you can already read Hiragana and Katakana. For my purposes, this application alone made the purchase of my iPod Touch worhwhile. The application allows you to toggle the furigana pronunciation of the kanji on or off. I use it off. It repeats kanji and the artificial intellegence remembers which kanji you have learned and whick ones are difficult for you. The feature is excellent. This is just a perfect app for learning and reviewing kanji. Its a stand alone app and doesn't require connection. You get the entire content with the app and don't have to purchase anything else...Highly recommneded for the serious student or anyone living in Japan.

It's good but...

One major issue. When you go from English to Japanese, the part in ( ) gives a hint to the answer. This should be updated asap.

Japanese Flip & an iTouch too!

My husband and I love using the Flip apps. We both use Japanese Flip and Kanji Flip. He has an iPhone, so he found the apps first. He showed them to me and from there we both ended up using his iPhone to practice Japanese. He might have found the apps first, but soon he was getting mad at me because I used his iPhone all the time. Memorizing Japanese words is challenging, and I enjoy doing it. Too much it seems. I could tell he was getting mad at me for pestering him to use his iPhone, so for my birthday he got me my own iTouch with both Japanese apps on it. Now there's no problem and I got this great iTouch to boot. So not only is it fun to use this app for Japanese, but I got my own iTouch because of how addicting it was.

Portable Japanese Vocab

I bought this app because I am traveling a lot, and do not have access to the internet. It's totally offline. So I use it for at least 45 minutes on my commute while inflight. I can't seem to put it down once I get going. I have also shown it to the people at some of the Japanese restaurants I go to. They couldn't put it down once I showed it to them. Very funny to see native Japanese people challenge themselves with the words on Expert. Terrific value for the price. Two thumbs up

I don't bother writing many reviews unless a program is either very good or very bad. In this case the program is more than very good. I am studying the JLPT, so this program meets my needs exactly. What made me want to write a review was the excellent method that it uses to pick which words to test. It is quite amazing when you are studying because it is not obvious from the screenshots. I have learned the words much more quickly than I have using other flash card methods. The word chooser is much better at gauging my progress than any other programs that I have used. For me that's a huge win. I would recommend this program for learning the JLPT words or Japanese words in general.

Achieves it's goal with flying colors.

This is a great reinforcement tool. However, don't think you'll learn Japanese from this tool alone. You will need to look elsewhere for example sentences, audio, and grammar. It does get boring after long stretches but it is a great way to drill vocabulary.

Fantastic!

MyAppsReviews

Based on my experiences with Kanji Flip (extremely happy with Kanji Flip), I purchased this app. I'm pleased to say it has exceeded my expectations! Just as KFlip is a fantastic kanji drill, JFlip is an excellent and painless means by which to drill vocabulary. The UI is uncluttered, easy to navigate and pleasant to look at. The SRS seems to be implemented very well. The ability to toggle furigana is a very nice touch. I'm confident my vocab will increase very fast with this. There is only one thing I would add: ~~~ Audio!!! Furigana is great but I'd love the ability to verify/reinforce pronunciation. Audio would also enable me to test whether I know a word merely from hearing it. Oh, it would also be nice to have a list of all the words in each category for reference (perhaps on the dev's website if not actually in the app). If Japanese Flip had those features (especially the Audio), I'd double my rating and give it 10 stars!

Excellent!

This is by far the best tool for learning Japanese vocabulary I have ever seen. I've seen my reading skills improve dramatically since I started using it. Great job!
