I have a few species that Seek can’t identify but I can’t upload them because I don’t have a Facebook or Google ID.
I take lots of photos of plants and animals I encounter on my hikes and this app has made it very easy for me to identify new finds. Instead of having to spend a half hour online trying to accurately identify the species, this app does it almost immediately and accurately. It’s also nice to have all of my finds in one place so I can look back and remember the experience of finding something new for the first time. I also love wildlife protection and conservation so being able to help with research makes me feel like I’m actually contributing something just walking around the woods and enjoying nature. If you already enjoy taking photos of cool things you find, why not enter it into iNaturalist and make it count. I’d highly recommend this app.
Found this app over the summer, just before our area had a second spike in Covid-19 cases. I live downtown in a city that’s new to me. My daily outdoor reprieve included walking my dog and we often gravitate towards wandering through untended areas of wildflowers. Initially I thought that I was just going to figure out what species the plants around me were called. Then my observations started to be verified by iNat community members and I realized that it has opened up a whole world of connections; fun, super user friendly and inclusive of all levels of folks.
Amazing app. I use it mainly for fungi identification. Truly is a great app BUT it seems that it may not be compatible with iOS 14. It locks up on me frequently now since iOS 14. It’s also uploading multiples of pictures & adding copies to my library. Perhaps an update is in order. I will change my rating if an update is made available because otherwise it’s by far the best ID app out there.
I travel a lot and iNat has been a wealth of knowledge for my explorations wherever I may be. I was very hesitant to post at first because I could feel all these very smart contributors and didn’t feel I matched up. But that’s the whole point! Everyone is welcome to post observations and the app is brilliant at suggesting possibilities for what you see so the learning is timely and accessible. I urge everyone to jump in and snap pictures of things you’re curious about and let the wonder unfold! Turn on the location feature so the suggestions are local. You’ll be amazed at the resourcefulness of this app and it’s community! Get outside and become a citizen scientist! And you might notice how much it calms the mind and soothes the soul. They say it boosts the immunity and Vit D levels too! Let’s go iNat!! Right now. Yes, right now!
Can’t manually select location when uploading a photo. Freezes in map view. Must exit app
I use this app all the time to identify plants around my property, and i find it to be such a fun activity to just go around and identify plants and fungi.
