Incredible!

This game is superbly made and has rekindled my love for management games. Hours upon hours of fun, and the community is quite pleasant so far, which is incredibly rare.

Great game, few complaints though.

This is an amazing game, if you like long-term games that will take YEARS to unlock everything unless you want to throw some serious cash into it. Normally I would complain about that, but this game is NOT pay-to-win. You can play this game and get EVERYTHING in this game without even touching PvP. There’s a great in-game community that will usually help you out with any questions that you might have about something in the game. If you like space games I’d recommend this game for sure. My single biggest problem with the game is that if you are on an Apple device, you can not restart the game, but if you’re on an android device you can just delete the app and reinstall it and you can start over, normally this wouldn’t be a big deal but you can make some SERIOUS problems down the line if you don’t know what you’re doing when you start. For instance, this is the only problem that I’m aware of at least, when you start out you put down scanners that reveal a few tiles of the map, each scanner increases as you place them down. The absolute minimum you need are 12 scanners for the whole map, the 12th scanner costs 4 million credits to build (which is a crap ton in this game) and its 4 million to scan the tiles as well. If you messed up early game on an iOS device, you’re kinda screwed because you can’t change where you place the scanners, while on Android you can just go “huh, I messed up pretty badly here. I better start over.” And that’s it. I like the fact that the developers want you to commit to your decisions but I saw one guy on here who needs like 14 or 15 scanners to get the whole map unlocked and they can’t restart because they’re on iOS. I got extremely lucky and blind-fully placed down my first few scanners and thankfully I didn’t mess up my placements but the in-game tutorial doesn’t tell you this, it just says (phrasing here) ‘hey, here’s a scanner, you need these to reveal the map, go at it’ and that’s about it. If you haven’t got this game yet and you’re reading this review, go to google and search “Hades’ Star scanner placement” and find one you want and stick to it. I’d give this game a 5-Star rating but I cannot overstate how significant of an issue this is if you screw it up, it will cost you millions of credits if you do. Which could potentially take years to make up for it. I just think it’s really unfair to players on iOS that mess up and have to deal with the repercussions while on Android you can solve the problem in under 5 minutes. Sure it might cost you however much time you’ve sunk into the game at that point, but it will save you months if not a year or more, in time just trying to save up for it all. Other than that, I love this game so much, it’s fun and addictive, if you’re a science nerd or just love space, I’d recommend this for sure.

Almost a Masterpiece

An Anon Happy User

The game has stunning graphics, great mechanics, strong customization, and quite the active community. One of the first things you’ll notice is the artwork. The stars and planets are well-animated and quite detailed. If you zoom in on your planets, they actually change aesthetically, with increasing city lights covering the planet. Your advancement of technology changes the shapes of your planets and ships. To put into perspective, around planet level 20, you even get a tiny space station on your planet, purely aesthetic, but highlights the amount of attention the developers put into Hades Star. The semi-random generation of planets and sectors means you’ll have a very engaging time as you purchase upgrades and pursue technology research. Cerberus ships are a common enemy for all players and prove a most formidable foe. The corporations system really brings together the player base and encourages them to pool their knowledge and experience for cooperation in red stars and competition in white stars. This isn’t a game where the top players will predate on lower players. They cannot touch you or harm you unless you intentionally compete agains them in white star missions. However, you can get quite far along into the game (and get more than your fair share of entertainment) simply by playing solo or in cooperation with others, avoiding white star/pvp altogether. There are only three types of ships, but with dozens of modules, tactics and strategies are countless. The lack of ship variety will not be a hindrance and you’ll hardly notice it as you grind for blueprints to improve your modules, which are the customization options for your starships. *Be warned:* There is an extremely harsh penalty for recklessly placing short-range scanners. There is no fixing this mistake and it can be made within the first day of play. If you’re lucky, you can adjust and minimize damage, however there is a significant chance that incorrect placement will be a massive setback in the long-term. Study scanner placements as even in-app purchases cannot amend a scanner mistake. Ultimately, this game is extremely enjoyable and balanced, and despite its flaws, has the promise of obtaining a reputation as a top-mobile app for the long-term.

Great game

I’ve been playing it for a couple of months and I’ve come to really appreciate the effort that has gone into it. They don’t push the up sell at all, it’s just there in case you want to skip ahead. but I like the patience and planning it takes to get ahead. Devs, keep up the great work. ?

It’s amazing!

So much fun!

Great game - room for improvement

The game is great, is allows you to grow without the fear of being pummeled by other player looking for loot. The animations, colors, graphics, etc are very well thought out. Excellent attention to details i.e. the atmospheric light behind asteroids and planets gives it that extra edge. The supernovas are fascinating to watch, even the ships movements. I think some work needs to be done around improving inter-action inside the corporation and other corporations. There isn’t much one can do once in a corporations other than help with trades and help destroy enemy ships. I have to try the white star missions. Maybe set-up a trading post where you can buy and sell parts for battleships, cargo, miners, etc with other players. That being said, thank you guys for developing a really great game which has much potential, keep up the good work ??

Wonderful!

This game is great! I love the visuals, the graphics are very detailed. I like the corporation feature and the ability to interact with other players. So much to like about this game, no complaints.

Grids, but not really (positive)

I’m the type of person who enjoys games that have this type of art style. Your solar system is represented by a large array of hexagons, but you can see a lot of detail in the solar system, which means there isn’t much math involved. This is a great way to represent something as big as a solar system that’s easy to keep track of and doesn’t take away from the appeal of the game. Another thing this game did right is by taking the clash of clans feel but putting it in an entirely new glove. This game is nothing like clash of clans, but incorporates the same clan system clash of clans has, which gives it a great feel of cooperation when working together wjth your corporations. I think that it is because of all this that this game’s community is absolutely wonderful. I haven’t met a single toxic player yet, and that’s golden, because not many games have a clean community. I wish the devs good luck in nurturing this masterpiece of code and art.

Farmland in space

I love games like this, but I also enjoy battles. This game has virtually none of that unfortunately. You fight some computer ships from time to time but it’s very limited. You are never attacked, you don’t build defenses or hardly any offense. It’s basically a mining game where you colonize planets for more resources to mine. So, for me, it gets old too quick. No competition to keep me engaged.

Horrible scientific inaccuracies abound

Just the most glaring: All distances are in AU (astronomical units). My starting planet had a moon 89 AU from it! For perspective, Earth's moon is on average, less than 0.003 AU away. Because the game uses distance (AU) to calculate fuel costs, this can't easily be changed. A more rational number would be something like Mm (mega meters). The moon is on average 386Mm from earth. So you could multiply all distances in the game by three and use Mm as the unit to come up with something rational.
