This app is out of date and apparently insecure, according to Google. Why won’t they update?

I have to say while it has a lot of potential and a variety of options, it doesn’t give the same user experience as Apple. And there’s a ton reasons why, although Apple Maps isn’t the best either, it is still my to-go app and has been for the past 4 years. Being someone who has grown up around users of Google Maps and have used Google Maps for a while (even recently), I have some perspective that I can lay on the table. Google has always been a great software platform for users to access for convenience especially for work and across many different applications for different uses (like an all in one software) plus their synchronization. But I’ll list some of the things that would make me vouch for Apple Maps over Google Maps. First off, the fluid, fast, convenient user experience AND user interface; these two are fundamental factors to my navigation because I’m not looking for an app to be loaded with complexity (features that hogs the app loading time) and challenges (because well this is an app for a specific purpose not a game to like aim for entertainment) and it just gets straight to the point — I’m trying to commute to somewhere and check options instantly whenever I hop on. The way the “Look Around” binoculars feature work quickly and is easy to adapt to and how it has large and emphasized icons of different transportation options. Also approximate timings of arrival (especially being a San Francisco resident), people like me using muni often to commute and what buses you can get to the destination. Now I know Google Maps does the same, but Apple Maps is just clear. Clear. Although there are lots of recommendations I would want to be implemented on Apple Maps, it is gradually improving at a moderate pace while Google Maps seems to be making minor improvements and deteriorating in years. Next is the lighting, Google Maps has always looked the same and never really looked to polish upon that, being a widely used application globally and a native app when surfing for places on Google (well it’s kind of annoying that I can’t change to Apple Maps as a default) but I’ve seen similar complaints about their UI. It’s bright, it’s hard to comprehend and see because of its zoomed out and non-intricate and organized design of say, the lines and streets for example. Also on a side note, the dark mode is a bit better; but would be much better if it offers a full-on dark mode besides the automatic day-night shift color as a setting. But either way, the design of Apple Maps in light mode would still win Google Maps in dark mode because of its appealing design. Thirdly, the options/settings, Apple Maps has always been simple, including their press to zoom in and lock automatically on self, which Google does too, but sometimes doesn’t work and is crazy laggy. I guess it is probably more fluid on Android devices because it’s more Google friendly and my elder brother seems to find it practical and suitable for daily use. Also the Google settings are great, Apple’s doesn’t really give a setting and some of it is hidden within the iPhone settings, but Google Maps is laggy as heck and hard to manage, the options are confusing and buttons are unappealing for use. To add on, their exclusive offline maps (that is comparing to Apple’s b/c Apple doesn’t have it) is also kind of buggy and for one time usage, it wasn’t the best. Occasionally I would visit here and then I guess, to check out new updates and access various features Apple doesn’t have (like the traffic option shows more), they do offer more recommendations to places but Apple recently offered a guide option as well (very appealing and exciting), big and clear; that’s a thumbs up from me. Finally, I’d say that Apple Maps’ location of the user is more accurate counting the right way I face (Google tends to think I’m facing the opposite way). So basically, this isn’t to shame Google Maps, but what they could improvise upon — Google, you are a large company, and of course, improving the speed and appeal; as developers should always focus on or you’ll lose users. I’ll say I can’t wait to see what Google Maps can produce in another few years, hopefully it examines closely on their user reviews and check what essentials they need to change for the better good. Adiós.

Does not reroute

Used to love Google Maps. No longer reroutes around traffic, and if you detour while driving it no longer reroutes but waits for you to get back to original route - Forcing me to use Apple Maps.
