Can't get it

crazysheli

I have only successfully been able to get into the app once as it keeps telling me to use another account after I sign in because it can't update my account. I have my son's tablet/account linked my account and I can't even access anything using the app. Right now we are completely locked out of his tablet until 7am tomorrow morning or until the app decides to accept my account.

Great start

This is a great start for Google. The app can be hard to navigate in, but it accomplishes parental control, which is the point.

Kids have freedom and I have piece of mind

Snuggles278

I took the leap and got my 8&7 year olds their own tablets but I was worried about how to keep them safe on the internet. They have their school study programs online so I couldn’t just turn off the internet. Family link let’s me know what they are doing and I have the most restrictive settings so I get told before they can download an app. Also Google’s kid account let’s me block YouTube which is a big plus! I would set one up for my littler ones but they just have preschool games and no internet.

Awesome surprise

I was setting up my sons phone and was worried I wouldn’t be able to monitor it as well as I would like but this awesome app was a sweet relief!! This is an amazing app that shows your child’s location helps you keep up with which apps they are downloading and choose if they can and can not download it!! You can lock the phone at anytime and set a bedtime so there’s no sneaking behind tour back it is an awesome app that I have recommend to every parent I know

Garbage app

It locked my sons iPad trying to set it up. Now can’t change any settings and can’t remove it.

Almost 5 stars

LadySPACER

I have been looking for a (preferably free) parental app for my kids. My husband ended up finding this app. I’m so glad Google made an app like this. I’m a big fan of Google and most of their products. I love that this app is free. A lot of the other apps I looked at required a subscription ??. Setup was easy and straightforward. I love the features that it includes and how easy they are to use. I am currently using it on my stepson’s phone and will be installing it on my daughter’s phone as well. While I love the app so far, there are few things keeping me from rating it 5 stars... 1. YouTube is completely blocked. It would be nice to be able to control this myself. YouTube Kids is available though which is a good in between and the settings are customizable. 2. You can only designate one family member (other than yourself) as a parent. While this works for parents who aren’t divorced, this doesn’t work so well with divorced parents. I added my husband and his ex-wife to the Family Group. I’m only able to give one of them parent privileges which totally negates the purpose of being able to add my husband to the group. I did come up with a workaround for this. I added my Google account to the app on my husband’s phone, so he can access use it as well. 3. I love that I can see how much time my kids spend on each app. It would be nice if there was an option to set time limits for specific apps. 4. It would be helpful to have a school time option for those parents who want to restrict phone usage while their kids are in school. You do have the option to manual lock your kids’ phones whenever you want which is what I did when I dropped my son off at school today.

Idiotic migration

Carnix

I would expect more from a company like Google. My kids already have google accounts with email addresses they use for school, on their chrome books, and devices. It’s completely MORONIC that, to continue using parental controls, that I have to create them NEW google accounts and force them to change email addresses. What kind of fool at Google thought that was a good idea? I work for SAP - and I can tell you this... if I tried to pitch a migration plan that called for customer to have to create all new accounts in order to “upgrade” some service, I’d be laughed out of the presentation, and my team would be told to go back to the drawing board and figure out an actual good migration plan. I have no idea of this FamilyLink service is any good - maybe it is, but because the people running it at Google are clearly not the brightest lights in the Googleplex, I apparently will never know because I don’t have any intention of dealing with making new accounts for my kids, it’s way too much trouble. I’ll just parent the old fashioned way and teach my kids not to do stupid stuff online.

Wonderful
