Excellent Single Player Strategy Adventure Game!!

MisterLovejoy

This is a very well-made and fascinating strategy adventure game for a single player (...made even more fascinating if you are into the creepy crawly Cthulhu Lovecraft saga). It's basically a manipulation of cards, dice and characters who each have their own special abilities. Your mission is to stop an ancient, timeless evil from entering the world. Very, very hard and it just gets harder. It took me about a week to finish the Cthulhu expansion and I was having bad dreams about it during the process! It's a scary, intense, atmospheric and story-based ride with cool art, nice movies and difficult gameplay. The learning curve is about a day and if you like single player story based gaming (I'm a Baldurs Gate type myself...) then you will dig this. Just make sure you have plenty of time to kill because it gets addictive after a while. Just started the Egypt expansion and its been hellishly challenging.

Just Wonderful

A rich single player experience. Its really fun. Perfect blend of strategy and story. I got my money's worth just playing the first monster; I anticipate getting all the expansions.

Fun little game - but separate app for phone and iPad

Shayd3000

This is a fun game that is pretty close to the board game, but is single player only. Would like to see multiplayer added where one could take turns then send move off to friends and also play together on same device. My only complaint is that there are separate apps for the iPhone and iPad, so if you own one version you still have to pay for the app if you want it on both types of devices.

Fun Single Player Game

Pick an Old One to battle, gather your team of investigators and go at it! It’s pretty easy to play, with rich in-game help. There are some differences from the board game, but they are pretty minor. The investigators are limited until you unlock or buy them, but it’s enough to have a good game. Obviously, some combinations of investigators are better than others; but again, that contributes to the fun. Be aware this game is all about the dice rolls. Crappy rolls will beat the best team, and vice versa. I’m still terrible at it, but I found: You need to take out effects like monster generation and dice locks ASAP, or it will add up fast. Go for the Elder Signs whenever possible. Use the investigator’s abilities and inventory items early and often, especially clues. More dice is better. If others have better strategies or tip, please add them to comments!

Great game, but one feature request.

This is a great game, but please add the ability to end an encounter, when there is no possible way to win. When the number of dice needed exceeds the number we have, then there is no way to win the encounter. Wasted dice rolls.

Fun but beware expansions

careenmdeckard

This is a great game as far as it goes, entertaining and challenging. It's immersive and doesn't get old. But the expansions suffer from gimmicky design decisions. Example: one expansion forces you to gather supplies for an Alaskan expedition instead of Elder Signs at first. No supplies = constant health drain. But a random, unavoidable event in the latter stages can make you lose all the supplies you gathered for no reason, involuntarily and immediately. After 45 minutes strategizing you lose the scenario in an instant. Good play isn't as import as dumb luck. I'd say get the base game but only devotees need bother with more.

Great Co-Op Board Game

Leftcoastkid24

Elder Sign is the simplist and most pared down H.P. Lovecraft game in the Fantasy Flight line-up. As with their other Lovecraft games FF has produced a game that does an amazing job of making you feel like you are actually an investigator dealing with other world threats and terrors. This is done in large part due to the great artwork and easy to navigate UI. In the running for the best board game on iOs.

Excellent Game

Colemath

This game is very faithful to the original board game. It is well done, engaging and can be very challenging. The art is superb and the gameplay smooth and well thought out.

Fix it

Mobotics

I can't give this great game a negative - although I wanted to so I will be clear. The game is awesome - the expansions are impossible. One star for expansion difficulty - 5 star for the game.

Outstanding board game

Ronbo13

This is an outstanding board game. When I first started playing it, I thought that there was no role for strategy and got frustrated. I quickly saw that there was quite a bit of room for strategy and got quite good. I enjoy the game quite a bit now, as well as the atmosphere, which is excellent. I would love to see FF produce either of their more complicated games (Arkham Horror or Eldritch Horror) for the iPad.
