Decent game

Premium price

Fun game mostly. Expansions beyond Cthulhu stupidly difficult.

Hours of entertainment ~ a worthy purchase

Having been originally introduced to Elder Sign in the board game format, I was already familiar with the format of this game. Yes, some of the bosses are hella ridiculous (especially Ithaqua) however, I did eventually beat them all after a healthy combination of strategy & luck ;) Overall, this really was a great purchase.

Excellent with one caveat.

Got this because we love playing all the Arkham games. This is a fantastic (albeit slightly simplified) version of the board game. We've already spent hours playing it, while doing Airplay on the TV. But therein lies the problem. You'll not I said "we" several times. With the quality and nature of this game, it is an absolute travesty that it doesn't support web/network multi-player. I was so bummed to discover that even the PC version doesn't. We love this game. It is what board game translations should be like. If it simply had web based multiplayer, it would easily be 5 stars and one of the best ipad games I own.

Entirely luck based.

No real strategy like AH. Items single use - limits anything that could be called basic strategy. Appear to be at the whim of the random number generator no matter what you do. Recommend to not waste your money on this app. I know I won't spend any more on it.

Unintentionally horrifying...

The Nyarlathotep campaign is a joke. Unwinnable and NOT fun. Trying to win a game where all potential or real strategies are ruined by dice rolls is not fun. I once adored this game. Each expansion is more ridiculous in terms of randomness. Silly at this point. Deleted from my device now, as sad as that makes me.

Waste of money!

Best app ever made

TheDukester

Not just the best game … the best APP. Ever. Period. I don’t leave a lot of App Store reviews, but I’ll make an exception this time. Anyone who enjoys challenging games, well-made apps, or Lovecraftian theme (or all three) needs to be playing this. Get it now. Thank me later.

Core game fun, Cthulu expansion not

Timberella

I enjoyed the core game, though the sensation of have the dice roles literally taken out of my hands makes it feel like the devs subtly stacked the deck against me. Some VERY "coincidental" dice roles always seem to pop up at the worst possible times, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The Cthulu expansion on the other hand feels down right rigged. No matter how much of a beat down I've given Cthulu's minions in the museum, I ALWAYS get trounced in the second part, in the Pacific. Funny how a midnight effect seems to crop up after my fourth investigator has completed his turn, giving me NO opportunity to respond before getting hit with some crippling effect, like "Doom +2", which of course seems to happen jut after the "Doom +2" Cthulu effect. To make matters worse, the explanation for how that second part works is fuzzy. I know I sound like I'm spewing sour grapes and I'll be the first to admit that I have presented just one person's opinion, so buy it and play it if you want, just don't consider it a viable replacement for the board game.

Rigged? Lolz

Screamformechicago

It's funny listening to some reviewers complain that the game is rigged, that somehow the dice rolls are stacked against you. Why would the developers do this? What would they gain? It's not logical, unless it's a freemium game and they are trying to sell you powerups, new weapons, spells, etc. To the reviewer who says none of the campaigns are winnable, I've won all of them multiple times. In the case of Yig or Tsathoggua, I can win almost every time. Don't confuse your poor strategy with a rigged game. I'll grant you, some campaigns aren't easy. It took multiple tries to win Cthulhu, and Ithaqua is insanely hard as advertised. Keep at it. And don't blame the game for your shortcomings.

Ok

Bloodsage

Main problem with this game is the difficulty is artificially raised due too poor game design not reflective of the actual board game. I've seen adventures that had 3 monsters and 4 tasks on it. Not even possible in the board game because hey it's not balanced in any way. Fix this nonsense. Not remotely fun the way it is. Hey how about the rules reflecting the board game. What a concept.
