Core game fun, Cthulu expansion not – Elder Sign: Omens HD Review

I enjoyed the core game, though the sensation of have the dice roles literally taken out of my hands makes it feel like the devs subtly stacked the deck against me. Some VERY "coincidental" dice roles always seem to pop up at the worst possible times, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The Cthulu expansion on the other hand feels down right rigged. No matter how much of a beat down I've given Cthulu's minions in the museum, I ALWAYS get trounced in the second part, in the Pacific. Funny how a midnight effect seems to crop up after my fourth investigator has completed his turn, giving me NO opportunity to respond before getting hit with some crippling effect, like "Doom +2", which of course seems to happen jut after the "Doom +2" Cthulu effect. To make matters worse, the explanation for how that second part works is fuzzy. I know I sound like I'm spewing sour grapes and I'll be the first to admit that I have presented just one person's opinion, so buy it and play it if you want, just don't consider it a viable replacement for the board game.
