Picture in picture doesn’t work

MelodieKwok

Everything is great except the picture in picture. It used to work on my iPad Pro. But now the button just disappeared for no reason. Please fix it ?

Nearly useless. Use desktop

Mathphobe

This app is nearly useless compared to the desktop version. Course progress doesn’t synch so cant switch smoothly between without having to redo work, many tasks like peer review are impossible or blocked for some reason, and user experience is terrible. Only useful for listening to lectures. Coursera can do much better and I hope they do. For now, Coursera is desktop only for me.

Won’t open

simsam12044

I’ve downloaded this app previously but it won’t open and now it shows it’s in the cloud and won’t redownload. Went to the App Store and I don’t even have an option to re download it.

Top-notch courses, follow-along lecture + transcript, pioneer

suzieXoh

Coursera has been my fave since the beginning. Other online platforms have come along. They entice me to browse and even enroll but I come back to Coursera every time. Sometimes the caliber of professor and one-of-a-kind approach blows me away and I feel lucky to experience their charisma and curriculum. Specialization/certificate came way later after I did many Courseras. I feel more than happy and even obliged to pay. With my current status I am able to justify paying for a course that would contribute to my CV. A lot of the courses I take out of interest are titled as such that I would not be likely to use it as the cherry-on-top way I assume people list extra certifications, since they are not in lieu of degrees or standardized certifications (although some are now available, albeit not in my area of focus). So the monetization does not leave a bad taste even though I had been used to free Coursera. Unlike YouTube and other premium paywalls, Coursera's monetization feels more like a necessary development a and modeled on the honor code system: they trust some will pay for the IRL-school aspects that involve their officiation, which is only fair. I believe the tests and assignments result in better learning, ntm the reward effect of completed challenges. The testing throughout lectures is also great if not annoying because you have to be active and not passive. This is good- painful in that you learn better. However when I'm reviewing the material to have an option to turn off the mini-quizzes would be good so the lectures can also function as podcasts do. Sure, it is passive, but I bet people will use it in both ways. I'd like to be able to listen while doing chores or walking without having to revisit the phone to press skip or click the answer. The Korean and other country offerings are fascinating and I hope U.S. or English speaking colleges or Coursera staff even, will collaborate in the future. The discussion groups look pretty good but I rarely participate. Perhaps the positive aspects of social media interfaces (upvote option thumbs up) like with the old Blogger and WordPresses with widgets or clouds of keywords sized to show their relevance, like hashtags now. Even more engaging would be the ability to see comments or pinned posts in a sidebar or like in live chat on YouTube streams. I find I get lost scrolling down to see messages with the hope of an answer or discussion point. If there is a point I'd like to explore, I don't currently see an interactive ability to form a space around that. Not sure what any of these functions would look like, but I write my 'user experience' here as appreciation for Coursera's thoughtful development.

Offline not useful

caffeine.in

Courses are great but this application made poorly. Courses are able to download offline but to use it in flight you must keep course open. If you didnt open your course before trip - you got a surprise - it fails to open and all downloaded content is not available. Also I have constant problem on rotation when notes pop up and I cant remove it without closing and reopening video. And generally application controls feels unresponsive and hard, like on web page. This obvious problems stand for the year at least and it seems nobody cares.

Terrible customer service and refund policy

Tyler Leachynutz

They will steal your money if you let them. I signed up for a seven day free trail, after the seven days my trial would then turn into a subscription and charge me 49.99 a month. On the eighth day I get charged and immediately try to request a refund, but to my surprise they don’t refund subscriptions with free trials and offer little to no explanation why. This is completely unacceptable, almost every service that offers a free trial will let you refund your subscription completely with no questions asked; Apple, Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, etc. I, like most of you, am very busy and tend to forget when exactly I start some of these trials and the fact they don’t take that into consideration is appalling and despondent.

Coursera is great, app could be better

Jwright4105

Overall coursera is a great program. However, when it comes to watching offline there are some shortcomings. The download section is not ordered correctly and it is a disjointed experience. Worse, if I put the app in airplane mode it just fails to load - so what’s the point in downloading?

Offline mode unstable

OceanidFan

I’ve been using Coursera for degree and it’s been a great experience up until recently. Having all the contents available on my phone is so convenient and makes using fractured time such as commute productive. Recently however, the offline mode hasn’t been working well for me. It either doesn’t load or crashes the app. Force quit and restart sometimes resolve it, but it’s taking surprisingly long every time especially given the new iOS is suppose to boost launching speed? It has really messed up my study plan and I’m not a happy customer at the moment.

Doesn’t sync between devices

Kenn1980

It doesn’t sync progress between devices, and doesn’t really improve upon the website in any meaningful manner.

Coursera is great but app needs work...

Apple is OK

Can’t access forum, lecture readings sometimes don’t come through completely. App is not terrible but learning during down time (in waiting room, on the bus or plane... yes sitting on the toilet), is a big part of Coursera. Coursera itself is 5 stars and app should be too. Please fix those bugs. They matter.
