Sudden subscription

Kikibear4

I was very disappointed in this new update. I have been using cold read for quite some time. And I kept being prompted to update the app. So I finally did. Biggest regret ever. Soon as I updated it, it made me subscribe to use it now. And the prices are fairly pricey!! It didn’t mention it was going to charge me if I updated it. So now I wish I never did!

Getting worse with every update

EssBeeJay

I don’t know what’s going on with this app. But it’s getting worse and more tedious to use. Every transcription needs to be edited now which wasn’t always the case. Now which makes things even worse, the audio settings do not allow for simultaneous lines. If they could go back to the old model things would be better. I’m very disappointed.

This WAS a great memorizing tool

PooshPash

Cold Read used to be awesome but NOW in order to do basically anything you need to pay a monthly subscription. I used it (back when it was free) and it did help me but now I can’t find another similar app and it’s driving me crazy (this is a venting review but I stand by everything I just said)

This is the indispensable line learning tool

Tannerglenn

This is hands down the best way to learn lines — I use this tool for scenes in class and for all of my auditions. It plays the role of a scene partner and responds seamlessly to your cues. Plus you don’t have to type the lines out, you can read them and it’ll type it out for you. Five stars.

Error

musicbylily

Every time I try to play lines, I just get an error message. So upsetting cause I really wanted this to work…

Great for rehearsing lines, but not for self taping

flocomo

I was on vacation this week and really wanted the self tape function to be my solution, but after bout two hours of getting the lines loaded for three scenes, it was just too problematic to try to manage the cues. In theory, this is the perfect app. I eventually grabbed a friend and did it the old fashioned way in a fraction of the time. It is a great tool for learning lines, but for that function the cost of subscription is too steep. There are aspects of it, technically, that are brilliant - love that I can modify the reader’s volume and match the room tone. Transcription is wonderful. The timer is awesome. Tried to connect my remote for the tap for cue function but it didn’t work. There was no way to adjust the video settings (that I could find) and the color and exposure were off. Normally I don’t write reviews - this has great promise, and I hope the developers continue to make improvements and include more detailed instructions about interface in the future.

Not worth the subscription

!brainstorm

This is expensive for what it is. It’s good but not worth $86 a year. I regret recommending it when it was free. As actors, we’re already paying for so much just to get in a room.

Game-changer

Yeardley S.

I’ve never written a review for an app, but I love Cold Read. I’ve never learned lines so quickly and accurately. There’s such value in speaking the lines to be transcribed, and then editing them (if you choose), that cement the text in my brain so I can live the words instead of just trying to remember them. I wish I’d had an app like this when I was starting out. -Yeardley

GFJOEglutenfree

Free trial week. Works great, expensive…

Just downloaded. Seems to be a great app for rehearsing and learning lines. Not sure if I can justify the cost for a subscription.
