Like D&D chess

(Boathouse)

It's old and no graphics but I love the game style, hilarity can ensue where greed and pushing your luck will have consequences, and using wit and cunning can get you out of a mess more often than your stats and weapons. Death is permanent and no save points to start back at. Sometimes you have to sacrifice something you really like to save your hide and sometimes a harmless monkey who steals your last ration and runs faster than you is your greatest foe haha.

Yes, this is what you were hoping for.

Go ahead and start downloading. You wouldn't be browsing reviews for Brogue if you weren't already familiar with rogue-like games. You have probably already tried NetHack or some other and were saddened that it didn't make the transition to a touchscreen well. I stumbled on Brogue recently and was dumbfounded that I hadn't heard of it before. If you are looking for the rogue experience without the keyboard, this is it. Stop reading and go download.

Download Brogue now.

Squareking

I enchanted a goblin from across a chasm and made him walk into lava, instantly killing him and igniting his nearby totem-worshipping friends as well. Arguably the best roguelike on ios.

Best game on my iPad

Just be sure to bring a bluetooth keyboard.

Great

Pretty much everything I’d want in an iPad roguelike. Funny and fun. I wish the “D-pad” was built a bit better (see Terraria for an example) but its a minor point in the overall (and free!) experience :)

Keeps finding a nonexistent keyboard

A reboot solved most of my issues with the d pad not showing up

Best time killer ever!

I have spent more valuable time playing this game than I am really proud of. Soooo many ways to play and soooo many ways to get killed. A simple interface and seemingly simple set of rules become amazingly immersive. Try it out! It's free and awesome!

Unforgiving and excellent

I never would have expected such a polished roguelike port for the iPad. If you've never played a roguelike, don't expect an easy journey. And CERTAINLY do not expect to get any of the achievements--you don't even get one for beating the game! Give this one a try, though, it suits the iPad well.

Must have

Barinthus

At the first glance, this game doesn't seem like much but oh boy don't judge the book by cover here! This game is a lot of fun and extremely addictive. A must-have for dungeon crawl fans. My biggest complaint is sometimes it doesn't delete a game when I die so whenever I go to "open game" it's listed but doesn't load when I click on it. I'd like to be able to delete those games. Despite this, I'm giving the game full 5 stars cuz it's so awesome!

Just amazing.

I virtually never review games but I went out of my way to submit one in the hopes that more potentially interested parties will download and the community will continue to expand. I don't know how I made it this far in life without stumbling across this game. For people who become as obsessed as I have, there's also a forum community that has weekly competitions of dungeons and strategy guides that you may find interesting.
