Engaging!

I've used Rosetta Stone and had a hard time learning because it assumes you've already learned the alphabet for the language it's teaching. Other free apps do not compare for those which actually have Russian. This app gives a little of everything as you go, introducing new letters and words progressively so you can hang it off of the understanding you already have with English with reviews along the way. Just make sure you really understand what is covered in the review before moving on, otherwise you will struggle as the next lessons really dive in and assume proficiency on previously covered material. I suggest you use in-ears with a built mic. The tiny speaker can't properly convey the dictation without low end frequency response.

Ever sense the update it will not recognize my voice command. I about to cut my subscription. It's right at finals week in school and it stops working! Not a good time for this to go out on me.

A Useful Introduction to Russian

RMacSeain

While there are perks to using the Rosetta Stone method, I am an adult who benefits from a more direct, didactic teaching style. I prefer to be simply told the grammar rules so I can assimilate them into the understanding I already have for how languages work, and to be taught the alphabet outright and be allowed to structure my vocabulary on my own terms. Babbel provides this learning style and it is an excellent compliment to my college Russian course as well as a useful companion system to use in tandem with Rosetta Stone or by itself.
