AUM - The Legend.

Enrique Raphaël Page Pérez

Been using AUM for years - when I began it was “awesome”, but I still needed my daw. Nowadays, working with a DAW feels like a limitation - AUM and ApeMatrix are substantially more creative IMO and AUM had crowned itself as the leader in this realm of modular hosts. That being said, I am terribly ashamed to have to post a complaint on an otherwise perfect 5 stars app, but the issue is HUGE really. At least it is to me. Sorry for being such a pain about it, but really, how hard can it be to bring landscape mode to AUM on phones? This almost makes me want to drop a star - and realistically the reason is simply put: Working on AUM on iPhone is unbearable. It is the most cumbersome experience there is - I simply cannot stand it. As soon as there’s more than a few channels instantiated it becomes very hard to handle and realistically I just don’t see why this obsession with making AUM for iPhone strictly portrait. It is a terrible design choice that I hope (after pointing it out for at least 2 years consecutively on all my AUM reviews), we will get in the next key update (which realistically will probably take around a year to come out). Please take this into consideration - whenever I use my phone I’m 100 times more inclined to use ApeMatrix because the user interface is 100* better especially on iPhone. In any other regard, AUM is truely the king of kings - even though I prefer the ApeMatrix “UX”, because I find it substantially faster to work with - AUM is the most stable, solid and the one that offers the most options of all. You won’t regret purchasing this at all - but if you work on iPhone like I do sometimes, you might want to sum yourself up to the “give us landscape AUM on phones” movement and drop a note about it in your review. IMO - landscape AUM for iPhone would be one of the most memorable updates EVER.

Music production on iOS 101, step one: download AUM

Actually recognizes all inputs of my Soundblaster E5

darkgoob

This is the first and only app I've ever found that lets me select the various inputs of my SoundBlaster E5 (USB audio interface) AND lets me set the sample rate to 48khz. As a professional iOS programmer, I have even tried to write my own app to do this, and after two days of frustration with Apple's extremely bizarre and limited audio APIs, I tried AUM, and wow, hats off to the developers of this extremely slick app. I don't know how they did what so many other apps totally fail to do, but it's perfectly executed here. Hats off to the developer. Now, one annoyance: the dB level meter of the input is hidden. You can either see the playback controls or the level meter, but not both. I don't know why they don't just show the level in the fader itself, like most DAWs, but hopefully they can add this in a future update.

Must Have for Live Performance

eVio-4-Jesus

AUM isn’t a traditional ‘old skewl’ DAW….. it’s a futuristic workhorse that let’s you create sounds; both for live and recorded purposes. It hosts a myriad of AUv3 plugins that let you sound-sculp live and generated sounds of all kinds. I use it in live performances with my violin. I have different “patches” and can MIDI control AUM to switch between them as needed.

You need this

Rawlivic

I’ve had AUM for about 2 years now, I use it every day just about. Always can find an answer to what I need to do, best app for quick jams or coming up with concepts on the fly using all of your auv3 apps. The multiout works fantastic, never an issue. This is. A must have for any serious iPad music producer. Get it today.

AUM changed my iOS life

Fsaxwas9

I do a lot of live performance using my iPad as a plugin host with a MIDI (wind/breath) controller. AUM is an indispensable part of my setup, absolutely essential. It allows me to configure and save my instrument and effects plugin chains and setup customized MIDI control routing with the various apps. AUM allows me to use my iPad in the same way I setup these kind of patches on my laptop host. Being able to run this kind of setup on my iPad is a huge bonus, since it’s more portable than dragging my laptop rig around.

Change the name to wormwood

Aka monkey dope

I see all these folks using this . But the moment I open it I’m furious that it expects all of us to ignore everything we learned about using apps and turns us into little fleas jumping through navigational hoops to do even the simplest of every day music making on the iPads . And the army of people using it and who think it’s so awesome are like a private golf club in pebble beach That only allows their way of operating to exist . Because of this app audio buss is a junk pile of problems too. Since it’s inception all AUM has accomplished is to drive people away from my beloved iPad Pro . And now studio pros laugh at anyone who even speaks about iOS . I sure hope the minuscule amount of people who enjoy AUM will disagree but they seem to enjoy using puzzles to make music on an app that is so unintuitive it’s ridiculous. We need a central hub daw that opens all apps within itself and actually looks and behaves like one . Something native to Apple not third party …like Logic Pro but as long as everyone keeps using a puzzle to make music that will never happen. And it’s 2021 already . I will never use this app ever it’s junk and stupidly over engineered to please the engineer who created it and thinks “it’s useful to twenty or thirty people so great.”???????????????

My Essential Performance Platform

Toaster Fflow

I’ve been creating ambient electronic soundscapes for more than 30 years. My tools have evolved from massive modular analog systems to Virtual Analog hardware to, now, iOS. AUM is the tool that has allowed me to seamlessly layer a multitude of sound sources, effects, and complex systems in real time. It offers a surprisingly comprehensive set of audio routing tools, and a vast midi toolkit, all coded with rigorous efficiency and skill. The design is simple and clean, and the functionality intuitive. Also, Jonatan, the developer, is remarkably engaged with users, and is constantly improving and updating features and functionality. Because the feature set is vast, I strongly encourage you to read the User Guide, and watch one of the many great tutorials, to make sure you understand whether AUM can meet your specific needs.

The one essential music app

Dad of one boy

What is AUM? At first it looks like it’s merely a mixer. But it’s simplicity belies it’s immense power. That’s good app design. But as you explore the app you realize it’s so much more than just a mixer. It’s the glue that binds all of your audio apps. Keeping them all on time and in sync. It works with your midi hardware, your midi software and best of all these amazing AUV3 apps which include special effects and virtual synthesizers and drum apps and really everything. If theses apps are well designed AUM let’s you easily route things to them, like midi messages and LFOs and sequencers. It’s quite literally the Rosetta Stone of audio apps. To say it’s indispensable would be an understatement. Best part the developer is super active in his community and fixing bugs. This app is in active development. This is a no brainer purchase, worth every penny. If you wondered how to make mobile music or take your music to the next level, look no further. This is it!!!

Just a thought can AUM be updated with drum pads for the hip hoppers
