Brilliant Sound Design Tool

Cianoc123

If you are interested in sound design, or DSP, you really need this app. 1) Great interface. Intuitive, efficient and beautiful. It makes you want to create stuff. 2) Fantastic community, including some great tutorials. 3) Great modules. Often if you want something, someone has built it (and then you can deconstruct it). 4) Super flexible. If you want to use it as a filter, no problem. If you want to feed a synth into a sound processor through Audiobus. No problem. Midi mostly works. 5) A good (it not quite great yet) library of basic building blocks. Including essential stuff like single sample delays, biquad, etc). It still needs FFT to be truly up there, but it's close. 6) Nice building blocks for building interfaces for your instruments. The gui designer is intuitive and just works. The only things it truly lacks to be epic at this point are: a) Midi Out b) Multiple Output Channels c) Sample/Wave Tables d) FFT capabilities (a) and (b) are apparently coming soon. This is one of the great audio apps on the iPad. Well worth it.

Build your own synths!

fgk

If you're the kind of person who likes making things and builds sounds up from the ground, or if you are the kind of person who thinks that your synth app would be so much better with a few new features or missing components, then Audulus is just what you're looking for. You can make custom synths out of the many parts already inlcuded, and the support forum is full of new things that that other have created, perfect for learning and experimenting. Of the dozens of synth apps I own, this is the one that I keep on the front screen because I use it so much. It is fun for shaping sounds and patches unlike anything else out there. I'm currently building the perfect iPad synth, something that includes all the best features of my favorite synths. I also have plans for a generative system to make new "random" compositions. I love it!

Great app, AMAZING SUPPORT / community!!

DS_in_the_ATX

Far and away best modular on iOS- and the "team spirit" between designer, support and user-community is without parallel in my experience! Save up, buy it, and freak out, in the best way! DS_in_the_ATX

anxiety is the dizziness of freedom

Audulus is a frighteningly brilliant 8 year old who should probably be a professor at MIT. Audulus is a gateway drug from modular synthesis to software engineering. Audulus is whatever you make of it, frightening anxiety-inducing brilliance and freedom. Buy the app and create!

Beautiful Interface & an engaged community

Loops289

As a newbie to modular synths, I was initially intimidated by the learning curve required to get up to speed with Audulus 3.3. However, I quickly discovered though the product online forum and through direct engagement with Bimini Road, that there is a committed and knowledgeable community that's very willing to help. Audulus 3.3 features a gorgeous UI and a lot of options for sound design, creating what is a very deep and flexible synthesis tool. I've been playing with it for the past weeks and can't wait to use it as a performance instrument.

Modular synth heaven

Rjomulus

Both the iOS and Mac apps of this are amazing. You can make modular synths, combine with Ableton and apps like Audiobus, use Midi, and output properly to make a solid mix down as well. It's fun and offers a ton of freedom. Also, the support for the App is fantastic. I would recommend this to anyone from beginners to advanced users looking to learn and work with sound design and synthesis!

I own both the iOS and Mac version of Audulus and both get plenty of use. If you don't have any modular background, don't worry because Audulus gives you great tutorials on how everything functions. Once you build your first synth from scratch you're hooked. Yes it can be a bit CPU heavy but has worked flawlessly on my iPad Air 2 and the Mac version is awesome because I can use Audulus as a plugin in my DAWs (except Bitwig... grrrr, Bitwigs loss). I have been a professional musician for over 20yrs and I highly recommend this app.

3.3 is improved but ...

BozoToo

Sorry to be the curmudgeon here, but there are still some flaws in ver. 3.3. Don't get me wrong, it is FAR better than the previous update (3.2). Many of the problems introduced in 3.2 have been solved and overall, Audulus IS STILL THE SINGLE BEST modular synthesizer ap available for ANY platform ...period. I love it and recommend it. But... It is still CPU heavy on anything less than the latest iPad (such as the Air or the Pro). If you are using an iPad 4 or less, you will experience CPU overload which causes glitching in the audio output. Even moderately complex patches sometimes end up using far more CPU time than 3.0 or 3.1 did. But the User Interface and responsiveness has improved with this latest version. At this point, I am going to have to buy a new iPad in order to get the most out of Audulus, which means that I am not going to be able to use this ap to its fullest abilities (which are AMAZING, BTW) until then. Taylor and crew: you guys have an AMAZING program here. But please, in the future, have a little more consideration for backward HW compatibility. I don't want to have to run out and buy a new iPad with every major update to get the most out of Audulus.

I was really looking forward to using this app but...

Master Acendant

I was really looking forward to using this app but I'm on an iPad 2... It let me buy it but it doesn't really work, I can't do anything without it crashing. And checking out the demos the cup was at like 147%. I'm super sad I just spent $20 on this and it's not even useable. :( I'll be looking forward to using this when I get a new iPad someday. Thanks.
