Way behind the times – My H-E-B Review

Title of original review: “Can’t paste password during account creation“. This app requires you to create an account if you want to use curbside pickup. The account creation process doesn’t let you paste a password in — you can only type it. This precludes the use of password managers like LastPass and 1Password. Ok, technically it doesn’t preclude their use but I’m not going to have the password manager generate a password, write it down, switch apps, and then type 32 random characters in. Then type the same 32 random characters a second time for verification. Major fail! I’ll use a different chain that makes getting started with them much easier, thankyouverymuch. Update Dec. 2021: I decided to take another look at this app since switching to a different grocery chain a couple years ago after my previous review. I’m glad to see that I was able to paste my credentials in from my password manager without any trouble, so they fixed that issue. However, now the issue is that this is nothing more than a vertical-only iPhone-only app. Using it in landscape mode on my iPad makes use of no more than a third of the available screen real estate and the app’s display area ends up being literally the same size as it is on my phone. C’mon guys, really? It’s practically 2022 and you’re still stuck in the portrait-mode iPhone app paradigm from 2008? Have you not kept up with all the API changes? Are you such rigid thinkers that you can’t conceive of your customers wanting to use the app any other way? I was hoping to use the ample iPad screen to put together a curbside order more easily without having to go find the reading glasses for my aging eyes. I guess I’ll stick with the other grocery chain for a few more years.
