New Features and No Bug Fixes – Goodnotes 6 Review

I love GoodNotes and have been using it since version 4. This newer version has a much improved file sorting system but that’s really the only improvement I take advantage of in this version of the app. When this new version came out, I was more forgiving of issues. But the issues have grown lately and it doesn’t seem as if the team behind this app is interested in fixing them now. For me, the most egregious bug in the app is that when you copy pages and paste them in a separate document, the images on the pages you copies do not transfer. I do my journal on this app. And I fell behind a bit. Now I’m trying to bring it back together, but I can’t do that because the images keep disappearing when I try to paste the pages back into the main notebook. Another thing I do not care for in this new version of GoodNotes is that the papers are all different from GoodNotes4. That means if you transfer notes from GoodNotes 4 to this one, you had best create PDFs of the GoodNotes 4 papers you used because they don’t exist in this new version. If you want consistency between your notes, it is going to be a hassle. Further, the new papers are designed more for the 12.9 in iPad Pro. So if you have the 11 in iPad Pro or any other version, you had best learn to write incredibly small to fit between lines on lined paper. I have always been told my handwriting is small and neat, but I do not believe there is enough space using the iPad Pro 11 in on the lined paper baked into this app. These issues, particularly the fact images no longer transfer with pages being pasted, have lead to a decline in use of this app by me. I am two months behind in my journal, but I don’t want to use this app to catch up because I know I can’t transfer everything to the main notebook anymore. When I use this app, all I feel now is annoyance.
