Eats batteries and loses trips – DriveSense mobile by Esurance Review

After using the app for several weeks I kept finding my battery being in the red by evening. It was an older phone (iPhonSE) and I was thinking of upgrading, so I bought a new iPhone8 (not a refurb). Still low battery by the end of the day so I checked the battery consumption in Settings and saw that DriveSense was 40% even though I didn’t drive that day! About a week ago I changed the settings from “Always” to “When using app” and now my battery usage is as expected for a new phone. Oddly my trip count has gone down from 80 to 77 after making the change. Now, of course, the app refuses to use location only during use, demanding that the setting be “Always” - so I might as well remove it until they address the battery consumption issues.
