Useful, do-able, empowering – Mighty - Self Defense Fitness Review

TLDR: 90% love this app, but wish it was just a little more customizable. ~ As someone who generally doesn’t like “exercise” but knows she should, and who’s too slow/poor for dance classes but would love to actually be good at some sort of gross-motor skill that’s either useful or beautiful, this app was exactly what I needed. The yearly fee seemed high until I considered that I would pay an in-person teacher just as much for just a few lessons, plus have to travel to his/her gym. There’s a suitable variety of short training videos before the workouts - a balance of moves, theory, and mental/emotional empowerment. The workouts are short enough to fit into my busy mornings but also around the right level of challenge, with the option to mark workouts as too hard, too easy, or just right. My one wish is that I could pinpoint which exercises/types of exercises are too hard or too easy. I was shortcutting on several hard ones involving abs and arms because I just couldn’t do them fully, and finally decided to mark a workout as “too hard,” but now I get fewer combos - which I was enjoying - and less aerobic exercise - which I need - and still one or two core exercises that are too hard. (Jackknives?! Are you kidding me?! I couldn’t even do the bicycles and plank pushups before I hit “too hard”!) That’s cut into my enthusiasm a bit, but there’s still plenty of good learning and I suppose eventually it will work back up to a more interesting level and I can just keep taking shortcuts on the exercises that I can’t do. And maybe one day I’ll find I can do them!
