I didn’t like scrivener & wanted Storyist icloud syncing.... but.. – Storyist Review

Today I have purchased both of the ‘main’ apps: storyist and scrivener. I first purchased scrivener & found it to be rather complicated (but thorough). However I really REALLY REALLY wanted simple straightforward icloud syncing. So, I purchased this app too. However, I am sorely disappointed with this ios app and have just wasted $15. A) export and sharing functions are a joke. You can export an entire document, but you can’t select individual pages to export or send to another app nor even print! This means you have to be super organised with your writing from the beginning. Zzz B) keyboard shortcuts are pretty unimpressive. I thought Scriveners iOS keyboard was pretty darn cool & was therefore really disappointed with this keyboard. You can totally customise the keyboard in the other app. As an example, I blog, so I added an ‘import images’ directly into my keyboard shortcuts, it worked like a dream and would be a huge time-saver. This keyboard is a pale attempt at adding functions, but uncustomisable and of limited use. C) import functions are painful. Want to import an image/ photo or screenshot of something you captured to quickly jog your memory? Click here, then there, then there, then select.. Scrivener ios at least allows you 1-click & import. Anyone who blogs or uses visual cues for writing longer pieces will appreciate the distraction free Scrivener vs the multiple click, arrow, click etc etc UI in this app. D). The UI is very dated.. not the graphical presentation (it has a clean feel), but the actual interface with the functions of the app are dated.. The entire interface requires either two hands or constantly going backwards... click here, click there, back to there, up to there... its old UI, doesn’t use any of iOS enhanced features. Redeeming features: The cheatsheets are useful, so I will copy those....over to my Scrivener app (or another app, if i can find something better than these 2).. I am glad however that I purchased both apps (losing $15) for one reason..... at least I hadn’t committed to paying for the desktop versions first! For anyone who wants to write via ios first, then flesh out the text and structure on their computer, this is NOT the app. Their desktop version gets rave reviews, maybe use another ios app (I am still not thrilled with the Scrivener ios app) and just copy the files over to their desktop app via icloud.
