Used to be great, but lost my trust. – NAVIGON U.S. East Review

When I first bought this app a few years ago, it was the best offline navigation program available, worth the price which was substantial - as much as many standalone hardware navigation units. Over the years, there have been some improvements and some detriments. The latest pair of updates have been very problematic. In short, DO NOT UPDATE at least without first finding a way to back up your data externally, because the recent update deleted all of my data - my route history, trip logs, and seven years of saved locations that can’t be replaced - quite a few were located the old fashioned way (by going there and dropping a dot, or by entering GPS coordinates). I don’t trust software companies that are sloppy with customer data. When I noticed the data missing I contacted the app’s support staff and I believe they gave me advice that made the loss permanent, instructing me to tweak the settings of the app in a way that resulted in overwriting any data that may have been stored in iCloud with a blank file. So not only did they write in a dangerous bug, they compounded it by giving their techs bad training. This is no longer a company I find trustworthy and therefore it doesn’t really matter how neat any of the features are. This is a useful app for navigating to remote locations where cellular data connections are not reliable. It doesn’t have any other advantages over cloud-based alternatives from the big players. I would not recommend spending the full price of this app. I’m keeping it because I have already spent a lot of money on it and it still does something slightly useful that some other apps don’t, but I can’t recommend this to new users at all. Stick with the free apps, at least you get your money’s worth with those.
