Solid app that makes city living easier – Companion: Personal Safety Review

I live in NYC and walking is a big part of getting around here. Coming home from a night out at a bar or walking home from the park by myself after a concert or movie showing would make my boyfriend nervous and he would ask me to take a cab instead of walking. Now I can use the Companion app so he knows what path I take and it would alert him if something did go awry so we can both feel more secure if I walk home in sketchy areas. Lots of the complaints and recommendations from older reviews have been implemented in the newer updates. (It uses a pin to deactivate the "Are You Okay?" and confirming that you are home, for instance. They also added a "wander" mode for just going for a walk without a destination.) I'm looking forward to the beta with watchers-as-a-service if you don't have friends who are available to mind your trip. I've used Companion for trips about a dozen times. On one occasion my phone crashed Companion (along with some other apps, so I don't think the crash was Companion's fault) and I didn't realize until my buddy gave me a call that my GPS had stopped. It would be nice if it somehow alerted one of us that my app had crashed. Though I also appreciate that it doesn't freak out when I'm on the subway and lose GPS/cell signal, so I'm not sure what the best way to handle it is. My only real complaint is that I wish there was a little more documentation about what the buttons did. For example, what exactly does the nervous button do? The description says that it helps my community keep track of unsafe areas. How? Does it ping my friend to remind them to watch more carefully? Does it mark that area as potentially dangerous for some future feature that says "some users have reported feeling nervous in this block, stay alert!" I would also be interested if they added a "I'm on a date" feature similar to the wander mode. It might ask for your date's name and license plate if they're driving. As is, I'm sure you could set a long wander and message that info to your friend, but it might be nice to have the date mode pull GPS less frequently (might save battery given that you might just be sitting at dinner for a while) and it would remind you to update your friend if you're headed home or if things are going well.
