Why do I have to pay monthly? – Todo - ToDo & Task List Review

I am confused, I had ToDo 6 and loved it, upgraded to todo 8, lost all my hundreds of notes that I would use as checklists & now I am being asked for a monthly fee, but no where is there a place to click to explain what I may or may not loose if I subscribe.. How much do you guys want? I paid a high price for the original todo, liked it so didn't care, then paid a higher price to upgrade & that's still not enough, your "upgrade description" inside your app is written to pretty much keep your average user In the dark about what you will or will not be able to keep, kind of disappointing as this is only one of a few apps I like..
