This is not what you’d expect, but it’s very promising!

Don’t want to say much, since I don’t want to spoil exact details, but warning here just in case. Suggest playing the prologue before reading this. I have yet to finish the game, and I may return to edit this. This isn’t a death game like danganronpa or zero escape. It seems this is more of a prequel, and the “full” game will be released on switch and will have a much darker tone, and might even go back to the original “death march club” title. It gives the same vibes as the danganronpa IF and “no killing game” modes of the series, where everything is fine. I have not played the zero escape series yet, but the prologue is VERY inspired after the series it seems. It made me feel very nostalgic for the danganronpa series, almost like I was returning home lol Gameplay after the prologue,,,, well,,,, sorta A mess. These types of games definitely hinge on the setting and storyline, but once the high stakes are removed after the prologue and the “road trip” begins, the game ends up being this: Walk, jump up a ledge, time for a small cutscene! Oh use this ability, then it’s a cutscene! Move this box, jump up, you solved what could barely be considered a puzzle! Cutscene time! I love visual novels. I’m fine with cutscenes. But the “platforming” part of the game.... really isn’t a good combo. I felt like it worked in the prologue, but afterwards it was a train wreck. Why four stars then? Well, as previously stated, it’s been said by the creators that this is not the full game. I think this could be considered a really cool demo/prologue/alternate story. It’s introducing its characters, giving them backstories and personality, and I think if the full game on switch does turn out to be a traditional killing game, this could give so much more meaning to each death, especially the early ones! That’s a huge deal imo, especially since the first deaths in danganronpa games tend to mean the least since you haven’t gotten attached to the characters (V3 did much better in this regard,,, what a masterpiece.) I think the best way to describe this game right now is chapter one of deltarune. A little teaser of what’s to come! Once the “full” game comes out, only then can I give my entire opinion on worlds end club. This could be considered a masterpiece when the time comes, or I could see this as a disastrous, disappointing publicity stunt. I’m giving this four stars, because overall I’ve gotten attached to the characters and it would be unfair to poorly rate a game that hasn’t had its whole story told.. This game should definitely be given a chance! Also the Apple Arcade timed exclusive situation definitely had an impact on the game haha. It’s really toned down and I expect the full switch game to be much darker, but I could definitely be wrong!

Nothing made sense

LittleRedBean

I played the game about 2 hours and I can’t stand it anymore. I don’t know who wrote the story but the story telling is terrible, it is awkward and doesn’t make sense. the tempo of the game is weird and made me fell asleep. The only thing I like about this game is the character designs, that’s it. It seems like it tried to be like one of those Danganronpa game, but the story is way worse and very childish, anyway, deleted.

so good!

NorthmansBride

i initially wasn’t going to leave a rating, but too many people went into this game expecting it to be, like.... danganronpa 4 and left a poor rating because it didn’t meet their standards. i really enjoy it for what it is; my only gripe is the framerate but i didn’t mind much because i played for the story anyways

A story in the making

Protagonisto-nyan

Just finished the game and the story has got me intrigued alongside the incredible character design from Take who has worked on designs on pokemon and other series has got me captivated so I’m looking forward to more.

Give this game a chance - in its entirety

momhom_

To preface this, I am a huge fan of Uchikoshi’s work. I also loved the Danganronpa games. So, seeing two of my favorite creators collaborate together was nothing short of a dream come true. However, I was initially taken aback by World’s End Club. The kids seemed annoying and the platforming was awkward and the story seemed childish. That is until the pieces started finally coming together - Uchikoshi style. The last part and the twists were beyond amazing and so well-done. I don’t even mind that they left the story at a cliffhanger because I know what’s coming next is going to be a supremely fulfilling experience. I also fell in love with the characters along the way, they have a lot of heart. If you’re a fan of the ZE series, then I urge you to keep playing this game until the end. It really is worth it!

Very shallow

Mavsynchroid

As a huge danganronpa fan, I was really disappointed with this game. I feel like the reason why it came out on iOS first is because the gameplay is so incredibly shallow and people would notice it much faster when using a controller. The story so far hasn’t been anything too interesting, and the characters are way too bland. Heck, the main character doesn’t even talk. Really wish they just stuck with danganronpa.

unique story and characters

Cougoose

tl;dr - though the gameplay mechanics would better suit a console, the game does more than make up for it with unique and memorable characters, an interesting story with many plot twists, and intense lore that unlocks the more you play the game. first off, i understand why some people are complaining. the controls were somewhat iffy throughout my play through, and yes, the story is unfinished. but, i think of this as the beta, or a demonstration of where the story is headed before it releases on console with better control mechanics and more chapters. anyhow, i absolutely loved this game. i immediately fell in love with the characters, as everyone has an unique personality and design. all of them were very memorable, even before i finished playing every route. (though its hard to pick a favorite, i really liked pochi.) there was always something happening in the plot that kept me tied in, and the story was constantly - but steadily - revealing more lore and information about the characters. i also loved the choice to take different routes - you need to see at least one ending to replay levels, but its very worthwhile. depending on the routes you choose, you learn a lot about certain characters, which made the game emotional while also strangely heartwarming at times. you also learn quite a lot about the lore of the story - of course, not everything has been revealed as of now, but the game has some serious plot twists that kept me intrigued. anyhow, this game was amazing, despite being a work in progress. i highly recommend it to anyone who likes anime, interactive stories, heavy lore, or who just wants a fun game that will keep them interested :) (mild spoiler : to get the most out of the ending, attempt to brake the train car - don’t worry about the cars colliding.)

Great if you like text

SavannasauR

Very little actual gameplay. You run for a few seconds and then it stops you for story or text. The gameplay is very very easy. There are multiple endings though. If you like graphic novels with a little bit of player control it’s pretty good. It’s not too long, it’s pretty short actually. The graphics are really good and the characters are pretty stereotypical but the story is good. There’s a pretty big surprise in there and that’s always nice. Overall it’s good, I was just expecting more actual gameplay but for what it is, it’s good

It’s not fair to give it one star.

You've never seen it coming

Check out @absolutemilky for more of my opinions that I might have not covered. I might do some memes of this game, so wjsjsks I don’t believe it’s fair to give this game 1 star already, There’s some cons and things that this game does right. The characters designs are phenomenal, and although the opening screen with the menu options is ehhh and ugly, the rest of the game’s style is really cool. The characters are lovable, albeit a bit generic, and I can’t wait to see what this game has in store. The story has lots of potential too! That opening scene did give off the best impression imo, it was anticlimactic and it didn’t have the best scenery. I wasn’t really excited about it. Probably the worst thing about this game though, is it’s mechanics. I like the action mechanic, not special since I’ve seen it in a lot of games like this before but it’s nice. I hate having to move my finger across the screen to make my character move, and the jumping just doesn’t.. feel smooth. Also the fact this game isn’t on computer and any gaming system confuses me? At the start I felt the characters were too small on the screen, but that’s a personal preference. !!Spoiler part of the review!! When you’re chasing Vanilla’s brother, you can literally see him standing there waiting for you to run, which doesn’t make sense,,,??? It broke the immersion and tension for me. I’m chasing him to his presumed death why is he stopping. When you get the key, and you get to choose to go to the exit or save your friends. I wanted to go to the exit cause they kinda betrayed me but nooo the game wouldn’t let me do that :/ Lots of these are just nitpicks, but it was enjoyable experience and you should check out the game! Especially if you’re a Danganronpa or 999 Zero Escape fan. Definitely has those elements. And the art is just great???

Poorly executed

QJ.js

The game and story, though confusing, is often fun and interesting. But the game is completely unpolished. The pacing is atrociously slow, the translations look professional but never double-checked, and the lack of continuity hurts whatever good aspects the story had. And when I finished what the game has to offer at this time, it doesn’t feel like I finished a game. It feels like I used my Apple Arcade money to play a pre-release. Is Apple really ok with publishing an unfinished product to consumers?
