My go-to language dictionary app

sfhoya

I have various language dictionaries on my phone, but WordReference is the one I go to on a regular basis. Provided examples in the app make it easy to understand a word’s correct usage. And the verb conjugator is fantastic. Bravo!

WordReference is fantastic; the app is terrible

WordReference is such a powerful tool and community; but I just downloaded the iOS app, and it’s one of the worst-designed apps I’ve ever used. I can see that people have been complaining for years about how buggy the app is; from my experience using it the past couple of days, it hasn’t improved. Trashing this app; I prefer to access the WordReference mobile site in the Firefox app.

Has its positives and negatives.

Definitely has some issues. Doesn’t know the difference between schön and schon. No easy way to look up conjugation tables for verbs in German. And for some reason it has a link to translate every word into Spanish. Why?

No Russian keyboard anymore

Diappointed!

I used to find this app a lot more useful when it had a pop up Cyrillic keyboard. Why on earth would they remove that feature? I don’t know how you’re supposed to use the Russian-English dictionary any more.

Everyone learning a language should have this app

I have used this website and app over the years and it’s a life safer! It is so detailed and how someone should learn a language.

Has potential

I’m confused why each translation of a word doesn’t provide an example sentence and translation. Many times it only shows the example sentence in English. How is this supposed to help me if I can’t to see the word in context in the other language? Sometimes there’s no example sentence at all. It also doesn’t have pronunciation options for my target language, only for English. Why not add pronunciation for every language? The design is also not the most user friendly, and it’s buggy and crashes somewhat frequently. I would love to see some updates, or if someone could explain if I’m missing something about why there aren’t always example sentence translations.

Forget Google Translate

If your language learner I highly suggest you completely forget Google translate. This app is very good and break down the conjugations of different verbs as well as understanding different variations on definitions.

How much this app can contribute, surprised me.

This offers more features and has a more comprehensive english word-set than some of the well known and esteemed English only dictionary apps. Like the clear audio pronunciations and the IPA sounding guide for each word. I hope the developers continue to expand and add more features. I would like more personal optimization settings though. Thank you for this really helpful definition, synonym and translation tool.
