Downloaded them all (as of 2020) and this Columbia Outdoor sponsored app (no ads) is the best. Based on the definitive guide for knots - ‘Ashley’s Book of Knots’ - this app it graphically straight forward, helpful, and has a ‘Favorites’ folder for you to make a future quick reference.
I first downloaded this when I hiked the pct. It is laid out with the different uses and it shows why and when to use them. I have several knot books and this beats all of them. Also better than animations or videos because you can go slowly step by step. I sail, fish, hike, rig things from time to time, and haul stuff in my truck. I use it constantly. It has been updated several times and keeps getting better. Columbia, Please keep maintaining the app. I don’t want to be without it.
This app has most knots you’d ever want to learn or knots you never knew existed, and the short description on what the knot is used for is very helpful. Although none of it is animated, as long as you are familiar with knot terminology you can easily use this app for reference.
Although there are no fancy animations, the step-by-step illustrations are excellent and easier to use. I also enjoyed the information about each knot, including history, naming, and purpose. I have several knot apps, but this is my favorite. It comes right after ‘The Ashley Book of Knots’ as my favorite knot tying resource, and its much more convenient.
I've been using this app for years and love it for building my skills and learning how to tie new knots. I find practicing knots to be very relaxing.
App makes it easy to learn knots with step by step instructions and colorful pictures. There is a wide selection of knots to learn, and they are organized by type and activities they are used in. Each knot also comes with a description.
This is in my opinion the best FREE knot app in the App Store. I have tried many others and they either come with adds or are just “knot” as user friendly as this app. I sail and climb and I often reference this app for refreshing my knot knowledge before heading out to sea or into the mountains.
This app has some great illustrations for knots and it finally got updated a few days ago after years of no updates. I emailed Columbia asking for it and then it came out a week later. Coincidence? Anyways, good app to have and study BEFORE you go outside and need to tie knots.
