Like I said in the title I just got the app and I am excited for its future. Let's hope things go well.
I am at games workshop hobbyist. I like the hobby I play the games. But this app is nothing more than an advertisement. It doesn't do much else to give you ads
While it’s mostly an ad, it does seem like a step in the right direction for GW. Effectively a blog app with benefits, this will keep you up to date on new releases and limited edition information. They also promise exclusive content. So far, they have a couple of iPhone wallpapers you can download and a few extracts of audio and iBooks. Those are nice in the sense that they open right in iBooks, or play the media directly. Downloads seem a little slow, but that’s probably something they’ll work out pretty quickly. For free, you can’t complain. I imagine I’ll check this once a day or so, but I’m a sucker for White Dwarf Daily and the rumor sites so that’s no surprise. I’m just glad they took the time and money to do this. It’s a nice little bonus.
This isn't news, it's just a way for GW to push images of new items they want you to buy. Waste of time...
I'm very pleased with the app, it's a good move to bring this decades-old hobby to the tablets/phones/devices we constantly have at our fingertips. Definitely a good marketing strategy for the company to make it all the more accessible. It gives highlighted write-ups for select kits, novels, Etc, providing a quick "buy it now" button associated with each segment. I can only assume there will be rules, special features, and other "White Dwarf" elements that will migrate to the app, pending it's success. This is a good thing, so long as it remains free. I would like to see a search function implemented, and a better system of categorizing the feed. Aside from this, I welcome this app as a very big step in the right direction for getting Warhammer information to the masses easily and effectively, without the monthly expense of White Dwarf / Visions. The trick will be keeping it updated and interesting (articles, tips, how-to's, news, battle reports, tactics, Etc) and not just a mobile push-notification machine to tell us a new kit is released. A battle report, for instance, could have a link to buy particular formations highlighted in the write-up. The potential here is great, to satisfy both the hobbyist AND the vendor. Here's to hoping.
It appears to be very helpful as an advertising app, but there is no option to only enable certain types of products to show up. As any Warhammer Fantasy fan could tell you, Games Workshop spews an unending stream of 40k products with only a cough of dust here and there for the main Warhammer setting (yes, I'm bitter). As I said, it appears to be absolutely wonderful for a 40k fan, but until there's an option for it to pretend 40k doesn't exist it will remain ONLY a friend of 40k players.
Slick and very well done visuals. Nice to see a list of current GW content but this in not really an "app" but more of a list of things to buy. Yes GW is trying to sell stuff of course but use the app to push that better- offer more except perhaps a free novella or download here and there as a showcase to buy stuff from your list of lists. 2 stars for visuals and just a list of stuff to buy, offer some REAL content and I can see this being ( stars
