An AppStore Staple

Lynxthinks

I've had this app for years and have it on multiple devices. As someone who absolutely hates when humans read books (strange emphasis, too much emotion, incorrect pronunciation), this app has saved my reading life. All of my ebooks are pushed through this app and are near constantly playing as background noise. I've bought a couple different voices, and it's well worth it, in my opinion. You can teach the program how to pronounce names or fantasy words not in its lexicon already, which is indispensable for big sci-fi and fantasy readers. The text color, size, and font can be customized for easier reading, and the background can be altered as well. It's an incredible app and if this was around when I was in school, I'd have no problem 'reading' the required material as I got ready in the morning.

Best iPhone app

It’s a very mature program. Beautiful Acapela voices in French. I use it everyday.

An essential app. New updates geared at academic papers are revelatory.

I use VoiceDream all the time when I’m commuting or just taking walks. It is an amazing app. Yes, it is essentially a text to speech app, but it does things that no other apps come close. First and foremost, it correctly parses the double column structure of most academic pdfs and reads them in the correct order. Second, the new skip citation function is really convenient (although it overshoots by skipping statistical results too often). Third, the voices that one can buy is of way better quality than the ones included in iOS. Love this app!

Love this app!

As an avid reader of fan fiction, I would often find hours have passed while nose is buried in my phone. My kids would often hear “as soon as I finish this chapter.” This app had allowed me to go about my day, get things done, and still enjoy my stories. I can pause it and pick right back up at a moment. I use it every day and think the cost was well worth it. Thank you!

Excellent Update. Dramatically increased functionality!

gedeyenite

This is an excellent update. I immediately noticed the improved margin recognition and scrolling function. If you pinch to zoom so the side margins fit the size of your iPad screen, the app auto scrolls to adjust. It even moves the pages to adapt if the margin increases or decreases within the text. If you bring up the OSD (e.g., gray progress bar, etc.) the scrolling automatically compensates. This makes reading on a treadmill almost 95% hands off. Previously I had to pinch and zoom every page or two to adjust. I’ll add more if and when I discover more goodness. Only downfall is this comes in the penultimate week of my year-long reading-heavy school! Could hav equaled this last July. I guess I’ll have to start another grad school. ?

Would be 5 stars, but the latest update is messed up on my iPhone 6+

purplElephant

I read on an iPad Mini 2 and an iPhone 6+ using iCloud to sync them. The update works fine on the iPad Mini 2, but on the iPhone 6+ the text that is highlighted is several lines back from what is being read aloud. Completely unusable. Hopefully it can be fixed in an update and I will put it at 5 stars.

Wonderful App with a few requests

Hootsama

This application has become a real lifesaver for me and my family. Unfortunately my father is in the process of losing his eyesight, and as a voracious reader not being able to keep up on current events and articles of interest severely depressed him. Using this application and iCloud sync, I am able to tee up a wide range of news articles on a daily basis as well as a variety of other text based materials, including even emails from the grandkids and his friends - All from my own phone sent to his iPad (we share an iCloud account.) To the developer, thank you! Returning his ability to “read” and keep up with the world has made a dramatic impact on his health and happiness. A few small requests include: - Would you consider an option that increases the button sizes and or simplifies the interface? Some applications might refer to this as ‘driving mode’ or ‘large icon’ mode? - My dad uses a number of other applications for those with diminishing eyesight, and many of those applications have him using the iPad in landscape mode. So the potential of rotating the app might allow for a simple UI transformation to bigger buttons or what not. - Using this application has both my wife and I hooked on using it as well, but for different reasons and mostly for our commute time. All of us have vastly different reading material preferences. If there was a way to create playlists in iCloud sync, so my dad could get his geology material without my aviation journals interfering would be a wonderful addition. - Lastly, if there was a way to get the app to ignore URL links, that would be huge. Many of the news stories and journal articles have links that don’t look large on screen, but when read out can go on and on and on. Thanks again!

I like it

Azarry

I like how accessible your app is. I've been using it for ages now. Hahaha. I was wondering, is there any way you all could add a search and replace feature that can be used while editing a document? Also, I've noticed a couple of bugs with the way certain things are pronounced with the Kendra voice that wasn't there during other updates. Otherwise, it's awesome! I mostly use it for Bookshare books. Thanks for the app.

Does not work

GelloVerg

Absolutely useless, just does work. Tried multiple times to get it to read a pdf from google drive with no luck. Waste of time and money, look elsewhere! Apple if you are reading this, it’s one of those apps with fake 5 star reviews.

Vest app for a blind college student ever.

Tj squires

This is one of the best apps ever. I like to read and its clear that the developer has taken the time to make a stellar app. Saved my behind a few times in class, too. Also, no annoying review pop ups. Thanks for that. Great app all around!?
