How do you get this to work?

Access to the world

I roll my eyes when I see negative reviews for this app from people who bought it solely for convenience — not because they rely on text to speech to accommodate a disability. They can't comprehend how amazing this app is. I have a cognitive disability that makes it hard to read and requires LOTS of repetition to get info in my head. In college, I relied on $1000-a-license Kurzweil software that so I could read/repeat my reading assignments. I hat I be sitting at.my computer to do this or make mp3s with no option to adjust the speed after it was saved. It took sooo much work to convert my info to audio, put it on an MP3 player and repeating content with the voices was torture. I was able to find a $20 app with two voices that weren’t much better. It was also hard to navigate and use and I couldn't multi-task. The next semester a blind friend told about Voice Dream. It. Was. Life changing! $10 and I could effortlessly add and organize content, adjust speed, buy amazing voices, export highlights, etc, all from my phone! I have access to so much more content then I never would have been able to read. I can add larticles articles via the Pocket app, books, pdfs etc. I also own the writing app as well which has made quality writing for me possible without the need of a human proof reader willing to work for free. It's also helped me learn and improve my writing -- not just correct it. They keep making more improvements and are responsive to users questions and feedback. This technology has evolved so much in such a short time and will continue to do so, thanks to innovators like Winston Chen. If you have visual, or learning disability this app is invaluble. It's a life changing tool make by developers with heart. My only issue would be easier to understand and navigate update newsletters, and a little more intuitive design but is not a big enough problem to knock off a star.

? a speed bar

I like this app very much. Voicedream is no doubt the best reading aloud app in App Store. The only shortcoming is that it’s not convenient enough to 【change the speed】. When I listen to the text, there are some easy paragraphs and some difficult. For the difficult part, I want to slow down. Back to the easy part, I want to speed up. At that time, I really want to change the speed quickly without my view of the text being blockied by the small pop-up menu. If designers can set the speed bar directly beside the play/pause button (or backward/forward button), it will be much more convenient. Thanks a lot.

Great App, Minor Bug

The standard out of the box voice (Heather) is the most human-like I’ve ever heard. Also, the “pronunciation dictionary” feature is amazing - allows you to change how the voices pronounce certain words if you don’t like the default pronunciation. This is great for the few instances where there’s a word or acronym or name that occurs frequently in a text (reoccurring newsletter or book) that I want Voice Dream to say it differently from the default. I hope the App is taking this data that we users meticulously enter and is using it to guide future adjustments and improvements to the reading engine that the developers build. While this app is nearly flawless in my eyes now, one annoying bug has keeps in recently: when switching into the app to a reading that has been paused, it frequently jumps to a random point in the text on the screen. If I hit play, it resumes playing at the point where I left off and a quick 2-finger tap will take me back so the right part of the text shows on the screen, but it’s annoying to have to do this when I am regularly switching between Voice Dream and another app I use to take notes on the books I read (Microsoft Word, in case that helps catch the bug!). I hope the team can hunt this one down as they have caught all the others in the past. Keep it up! :)

great app but ..

after 4.5.4 update, i can not open files (20Mb over *.rtf) Why don't you open and error the rtf file that was well opened and executed in the previous version? Fix it as soon as possible.

Can I get a refund.

I was unable to listen to the sample and I purchase your app. But I did not like it. Can I get a refund?

Phenomenal App

I’ve had this app since it was released. In most instances I prefer Voice Dream to actual audiobooks. Which means you can make any pdf, epub, mobi, etc a high quality audiobook. The speed control, bookmarks, notes, location recall, duration of books (which changes dynamically when increasing/decreasing the speed), sleep timer, document thumbnails, various sorting options, custom folders, library sync, etc. It also allows the user a ton of control in its visual appearance, so it’s a great general reader in its own right. It’s easy to upload files from dropbox. Many of the additional voices are amazing and specific voices are assigned to specific books. In comparison the built in iOS TTS is cludgy and poorly implemented with no features. There is no comparison. To me it is worth we’ll more than the asking price. I guess it depends on whether or not you use the full feature set and if you like supporting small developers that value their users and respond to support inquiries and feature requests. The only feature I would love is the ability to play music in the background. I use the brainwave app to make this happen but it would be much easier and better to use spotify, apple music, youtube, etc to play background music with Voice Dream. Anyways, it’s a great app. Thanks for making it.

Great app for listening to books

I listen more often than read books and this app is great. I often purchase books in ePub format so I can listen and read them at the same time depending on the circumstances. This app is also great for documents and other publications. It’s easy to use and does a remarkable job of reading text. Highly recommended.

Hi I really like your app

matt_makes_vidiots

Hi I really like your app and the price is right instead of a bs monthly- but it would be great if you could get the voices to pause at the end of sentences a beat and then paragraphs a beat n a half as that’s how the brain processes what it just absorbed. It sounds too frenetic when you have it reading over 250 if it doesn’t do such. If you do that I’ll change my review from four to five and I mean that unlike some. Thank you. Best Regards
