Train Phonics CVC

Practice CVC words using phonetics.
Category Price Seller Device
Education $0.99 Joe Scrivens iPhone, iPad, iPod

Over 100 CVC words in this app. A train comes into the station and you hear a word, press the train at any time to repeat the word.

Your task is to drag the correct consonant and vowel tiles into the carriages of the train in the correct order. As you press the tiles you will hear the phonetic sound of the letter.

Unlike other apps in the app store that are labelled as phonics, this one actually uses phonetic sounds and not the alphabet sounds.

A great way to practice creating consonant vowel consonant words.

NOTE: There is currently a bug in the adobe packager for apps which generates metadata that says this app supports multiple languages. It is only supported in English.

Great way to practice critical CVC words but no way to quit the game or customize speech. Some sounds incorrect. A little disappointing.

Incorrect sounds
CVC mistakes

In cvc words, the O has the long sound and the consonant Y says 'ee'. This makes the app unusable with my emerging readers.

Train is too loud and voice is too soft! Help! Fix and it is 5 stars for sure. We had to quit using this app because the kids cannot hear the word.

Overall very pleased

My son loves trains so this is perfect for him. One of his favorite things to do is make the train repeat the word, over and over and over again. He also likes to touch each letter repeatedly to hear the sound each letter says. He has known his letters and sounds for a while now and he still finds this engaging. That said, I'd like to see two changes. First, could the engine say the word and the individual cars say the sound? We talk about isolating the sounds of CVC words. For example, "What is the first sound you hear?" I think it would be nice to have a way for the player to check it out. Engine: cat 1st car: /k/ 2nd car: /a/ 3rd car: /t/ Secondly, could a picture of the word ride the train? Unless you are using nonsense syllables, I think a visual of the word would be a lovely addition to the app. Overall, I am very pleased with this app. A few changes would make it spectacular.
