An absolute blessing

Poooooooooppt

I’ll try to keep this review short, I’d been using the stock reminders app on my iPhone for years and I was fine with it but stumbled upon this app on the Mac App Store and tried it out for less than an hour and fell in love with it. I then bought the Mac and iPhone apps and now I use this every day. It’s not only the best GTD app but it’s a great tasks app and has a great clean interface and works flawlessly. Yes it’s a bit pricey but if you can afford it, GET IT. I cannot emphasize how much this has helped me stay productive with online classes in college. Absolutely love it.

Don’t let the price stop you, it is worth it!!!

I have ADHD and I procrastinate a lot. I tried every single app out there to help me get things done and non of them worked, most have so much going on that I end up overwhelmed and eventually stop using them. Things 3 is so simple to use yet so effective, it has the right amount of tools to organize my tasks, projects and plan my week, I actually enjoy going through the list of things I need to do. Turning tasks that require several steps into projects and working on each sub task independently it’s a game changer for me. I can also set up reminders so I stop missing bills deadlines or flights. Being able to add things into my inbox on my Apple Watch when I randomly remember something while in the shower is a big plus ? I recently been using the desktop version and I love it. They also have the best customer service which is so important IMO.

Best Productivity App I’ve Tried

A Happy Things User

This app is well designed and easily worth the price. It’s saved me lots of energy and effort trying to keep things for home, work, and our teens squared away. The user experience and shortcuts are outstanding - it’s like they thought about all the scenarios a user might have and designed for those. ⭐️ I’ve tried several productivity apps and always wind up back with post it’s everywhere. This app has outlasted any others I’ve tried. I have work projects and home projects and things quickly organized for each. Better yet, the integrated calendar and to do view helps me see what’s coming up. No more calendar entries in my calendar app for random tasks! There’s even a logbook that lets me see what I’ve checked off! When you download this, be sure to walk thru the “Meet Things” project you’ll see. I almost didn’t and discovered all sorts of advanced features and drag and drop shortcuts I might have missed otherwise. Enjoy!

No universal app, no compelling features in 2020

Things is as useful as it was a decade ago. They make the same app they made then. They haven’t released a universal app, have not innovated very much besides things like a magic button. Things was awesome a decade ago. Now it’s showing signs of stagnation. There are developers who are looking modern science regarding how humans navigate and organize tasks, motivation, and what causes an individual to be productive. Cultured Code seems to be looking at how to add underwhelming features. This may be called Things 3, but it sits the category of first-generation task managers. The last time I was impressed by something innovative was version 1. It can’t do cascading tasks, contingencies, doesn’t support calendars besides Apple, very meager NLP, no location triggers. Not to mention there’s a whole lot a task app can integrate in terms of being mindful of behavioral science. In the last couple years I’ve seen new generation of apps that are designed with so much more consideration for what human beings are like. They are still simple and elegant but there is real thoughtful work going into more than just how to put lists in different places. When you use an app like that, Things feels dated. Like they are not moving along with the times, or integrate new information about how to get things done that was not available a decade ago. Things was the best, it has a reputation and that’s why folks get it. If you have time to explore new GTD task apps you’ll find there are so many options that are either on the same level, or even more thoughtfully designed for 1/4th of the price. Maybe even 1/10th. We are creatures of habit and people that are accustomed to Things will use and recommend it. This does not mean it’s the best. It means it was the best and if you look around you’ll see a lot of options that outshine Things. Options that won’t ask you to pay for 3 apps when a new version is released because they believe in designing universal apps before adding a magic button they want to charge you for 3 times. If you want to have the most popular product get Things. If you want the best, keep looking. I highly recommend looking for new release apps that integrate habits. Imho, there’s so much intersection between habits and tasks it doesn’t make sense to keep them separated.

Loving this app, with a small suggestion

keylan7

I love Things 3! Coming from OmniFocus, this app is perfectly simple and comprehensive enough to do everything I need without OmniFocus’s somewhat bloated features. One thing I would suggest is when you’re adding a date to a to-do, it would be awesome to be able to hold down on a calendar day and get a pop-up preview of the other to-dos scheduled on that day. That would be so so helpful for scheduling tasks that I add on a whim. Thank you for the incredible app!

Useless

Very poor UI and features. I don’t know what use case they had in mind, but it’s not generic at all.

New widgets…

KellyK376

… are just okay. I LOVE that I can put them on my icon screens now, but Things only allows taking up two or four lines, not three. It doesn’t allow you to scroll through the list on the screen, only shows however many will fit from the top of the list. Also, it refuses to be below the icons if the last line is full (so my screen fits four icons across, but it only stays at the bottom of the screen if there are less than four on the last line). It is a relatively new feature so I’m sure they’ll figure it out. But there’s also nowhere to send my bugs on the app so this will have to do.

Great app with one small issue (for me)

tylerkemet

This app is hands down one of the best apps I’ve used as far as organization. The Apple Watch companion is the cherry on top.

Needs minutes option for reminders.

HelloPretzel

Only needs an option to select by the minute for reminders. Right now, you can only set reminders in 5 minute increments (example: 10:30 am 10:35 am, 10:40 am, etc.) Ability to set as 1 minute increments (10:31 am 10:32 am, 10:33 am, etc.) would make Things 3 absolutely perfect.

It’s fun with greatness!
