Good idea but has some flaws

cnelsonvelo

The new app is pretty nice and when it works I like it. I have a lot of problems getting it to start streaming video though. It often takes 5+ minutes into the workout before the video starts playing. If I stop in the middle of a workout it often loses the video again. Outside of the technical issues I really like the Sufferfest for another way to survive trainer workouts. The videos, music and humor really helps me to stay focused on what can a very tedious endeavor.

Great overall

Midwest Music Master

The concept and how this app is implemented is very good overall. Sometimes the suffer humor is a bit much, but sometimes it is downright hilarious. If there is one thing I’d change, it is the way training plans are implemented. Calendar based systems don’t work for many people. The free time anyone has in a given week and the progress they will make through the plan is a very individual thing. I’d prefer a block of routines to do based on the 4DP but to be done at whatever time commitment you have, with assessment of power data to determine what comes next. That becomes a more individualized plan that is easier to follow. Other than that, I’ll continue to use Sufferfest. If your goal is to go faster, this kind of structured plan is the way to go.

Excellent Training Aid

The Sufferfest is an excellent training aid. It pushes you harder than you think you can go, resulting in optimum fitness gains. The videos motivate you to work hard, and the accompanying music makes it easier to work your a** off. If you are fortunate enough to actually open your eyes and during the workouts, you’ll find the on screen text informative and oftentimes quite humorous. In addition to the cycling videos, the Sufferfest offers mental, yoga, and strength training, giving you the opportunity to develop every aspect of your cycling performance. I’d highly recommend that you give it a try.

I will be canceling my subscription after writing this.

I have been a sufferfest user since the beginning. I have a lot of there videos. And enjoyed there iPad app starting last year. But the latest update is the worst piece of crap. Stacking the stats on top of the video progress takes up to much real estate on an iPad. There no apple app so we are left with very little screen on an iPad. It no longer tells me when to increase or decrease resistance five seconds before it happens. It’s just there. That’s is the real deal breakers or me. If I could go back to the old version I would. Because the new version is garbage. Just went to the web site. And they have shut off the ability add comments in their community. I guessing they can’t handle the negative feedback.

Great app and program

Haven’t found an app that causes me to work so hard and suffer so well. The major draw back is that it doesn’t support another profile for my wife. This would be a huge add!

Dated Zwift, Married Sufferfest

If you’re serious about cycling you’ve probably done all kinds of things to make indoor training more tolerable. Zwift is good and I know they have structured training programs, but the way Sufferfest modifies workouts directly to your power profile and sets up training plans with Training Peaks, it’s just a superior training experience, in my opinion. Works better for me, anyway.

Broken since update. If you use HR only maybe this isn’t for you

Monkey Knife Fight

Edit: The app is broken since the update. Videos drop the HR zones part way through. Or they display the wrong zones: should be Z4/Z5 and shows Z1 right in the middle of an “attack”. I contacted support with screenshots and they just say they are working on it. Not sure when it will be fixed. For now with the antagonism for HR users and the broken videos I believe I may have to look elsewhere. SF has been great, but it has seemed like they have been slowly forcing the app more and more to Watts/power than using HR. They started the 4DP (four dimension power), but you could still use HR only for those that didn’t have a power meter. With the most recent update if you “display workout with HR” within any video you cannot see the ride profile. You have to select with power. Then with many videos (especially the no vid new ones) it doesn’t even display any HR zones and only shows: “Z0 0-220”. So no zones there. You have to use power. Summary: if you have a power meter this is a great app. If you use only HR monitor this may not be the app for you. I have had this app for several years (before the app I downloaded the videos) and I am starting to look around since I don’t have the $500 for a power meter.

When it doesn’t crash it’s great

yelpspoon

Great program with 4DP but a 15-20% crash rate is annoying.

Love it ‘cause beats me up so good

A great training app. Outstanding world class workouts and long range training plans. Oh yeah, and I enjoy the dark humor. Keep it up.

Suffering with the best !

Only been indoors a month so far with all my suffering bastard friends. I’m dripping with holy water and it is 12F today in PA. So glad to have joined the brotherhood ✅
