An embarrassment

Rich Mur.

Words can't describe just how bad this app is. Downloads get hung up so that one can be waiting days for issues that never show up. The Globe should be embarrassed that it's name is associated with this piece of junk. Don't buy it.

Because I can't give it no stars

Skip512

Up at five no e-paper yet again. Writing this at 6:15 still no e-paper. Did the usual delete and reinstall of app - still no luck. Yesterday app crashed froze my iPad and caused me to do yet another delete and re-install to get paper. Oh, if only I could get the hours of my life back that I've spent messing with the worst app I have ever used. Please Mr. Henry, think about your customers and their experience!

Zero stars

The app barely functions. I have had it for years and sadly dealt with its issues. It freezes, crashes, glitches, and rarely functions properly. I don't know why I even have a subscription to the paper ($30 a month!) when they neglect the very platform used to read the paper.

Revised to junk

It's great when it works, but constant struggles with the store and now it simply crashes repeatedly....latest update is suddenly very unstable as of May 27, 2014. Not happy as I am a paid subscriber to the globe. Not acceptable. As of iOS 11this app is junk. Basically needs to be deleted and reinstalled daily. How is the globe not getting it? Dump your app developer. How hard can this be?

Need Internet access to view downloaded issues?

What's the point of downloading issues if you can't view offline? Seems like big miss for app functionality to me. I want to be able to read downloaded issues when I do not have wifi, seems pretty basic.

Not good

Suffice sufficiently

I recommend calling the Globe customer service department to subscribe over the phone for the online edition. I know it’s old fashioned, but the service is way better. I subscribed through iTunes the first time. It’s not Apple’s fault as it’s a third party app, but the app was useless. No login access to the paper nor to my account. The app developer could not help me. Apple promptly volunteered to credit me so I could make arrangements directly with the Boston Globe. Now it’s all good.

This app is crap

David6670

Please, Mr. Henry, just give up and buy rights to use the WaPo or NYT app. They're very different from each other, but both are perfectly acceptable. By contrast, this app is crap. I don't mind most of the things that seem to bother other reviewers, but the number of times it freezes, or won't download the newest edition, or doesn't respond to attempts to proceed to the next page and then decides to respond to all of the attempts at once by skipping ahead many pages, or responds to an attempt to enlarge the current page by sort of going back a page and then returning to the current page, or..., is infuriating. The features are acceptable but the bugs are intolerable.

Great paper, horrible app!

leefamlex

Sad to say that the average rating of 1.5 stars (after 84 reviews) is probably too generous. Is “getting a reliable app” too much to ask for, especially because it’s not cheap!

What year is it?!

Do you want to read a broadsheet PDF of the Boston Globe on your phone? You’ve found the place! Attempting to read the fine journalism in the Globe on this app completely depletes the experience. And those of you over 40 with presbyopia - I wish you luck! Globe product development please hurry and find another app to release - like the ones that most major media organizations use.

Very buggy app

One of the benefits of this app was that I could load the edition in the morning when I had an internet connection on my iPad and read it later regardless of my internet access. Now, if it doesn’t exit with a “no internet” error, it just loops trying to load, not even getting to the main screen until I get to a hot spot. When I get the page open I can actually move away from the connection and continue to read the paper. The current version of the software has regressed over the last several months.
