Very good app?

Almost but not quite

I love the idea of digital payments, and once you have set it up this app is a breeze. The problems come when trying to buy new tickets. You must buy a minimum of £10 to get a ticket. Which means you buy tons of extra tickets with each purchase. On two occasions I had to buy 6 singles and two air link returns just to get on the bus. This adds another pain point, why do I have to enter in my details again when I'm purchasing new tickets?! I've missed the bus because I had to sort out my birthday and card number and am writing this review at the stop... I now have my tickets purchased and ready but I'm not happy about the experience. Lothian buses should use a service design agency like Nile to sort out these bumps. They make great digital services.

Crashes a lot

Unreliable. And very frustrating when you are late for work because this app just won't load and you don't have change for the bus.

Good start, tourists may over purchase passes

App worked fairly well and was easy to use once we understood the overall activation process. Downsides to the process include the "activate pass just before boarding the tram" process and the £10 minimum purchase. There are square optical codes posted on the tram platforms that must be scanned with the camera to activate the team passes for the airport fare. You can't activate the pass once you get on the tram. I didn't understand that initially and the ticket agent had me run off the tram at the next stop to scan that code so the ticket would activate. When boarding a tram for the airport return, there were a few anxious moments while the tram was coming and the app hung and exited without activating the pass. The ticket agents should have a general code they carry or a booklet of codes so the proper one can be scanned on board if necessary. The £10 transaction minimum led us to buying more day passes than we actually used with no way to refund or at least pass the m-ticket to someone else to use. Not bad, but could use improvement in code stability and overall process of ticketing validation.

£10 minimum ticket purchase
StephenD~

What idiot thought anyone would want to pay a min of ten quid on bus tickets? Are you having a laugh? I can buy a song from Apple for 79p but you can't sell me a £1.50 bus ticket? NUMPTIES

Meh

The idea is nice, but you have to spend minimum £10 per device. My wife and I are only in Edinburgh for two days, and two day bus passes only add up to £7. They should make it possible to purchase a couples' pass so you can reach the minimum spend on one device. Or get rid of the scammy minimum spend altogether.

Why no Ridacard??
rbell

There's £10 minimum per device and only allows you to buy 1-day passes, which makes this app relatively useless for 99% of people. Every local would use this if you could buy single rides, day passes, and especially if you could use Ridacard on here. Carrying around the stupid card and the risk of losing it is a pain in the butt; however, EVERYONE has their phone on them at all times! It would be so simple it's insane that it hasn't been done. Sure, those who get discounted tickets (seniors and students) should show proof once a quarter or so but that would just mean a little trip to the station. PLEASE change to this, Edinburgh. App works but is useless for most.

Careful buying for more than one

The app will let you buy a quantity of tickets, but only one can be used at once, so even if you buy two tickets, you can't get your mate and yourself onto a bus together. Your mate needs their own phone, app and separate purchase.

Best of its kind

I use transit all over the world. This app makes Edinburgh one of the easiest to pay for. And it even takes credit cards from abroad, unlike for example any way of paying Transport for London online.
