App does not work reliably.
Rent-A-Mark

I downloaded this app to try to update the firmware of a Sylvania Smart+ bulb because it would quit responding to HomeKit commands on a regular basis. The app showed the Smart+ bulb the first time I ran it and even allowed me to start the update process but, after a long delay, it said that the update failed. Now the app shows that the bulb still has the same firmware as before but will not let me select anything from the list to update. However, the Home app on my iPhone says that the firmware on the bulb is updated.

Not reliable
Ozmox

The app doesn’t always start or end the firmware process reliably. It often gets stuck or just hangs. You have to force quit the app and try again for it to work correctly and update the bulbs.

WTH?!

There isn’t enough space to tell you all the bad that has come about with this update. Please abort and revert back.

What happened?!

The app has been completely overhauled and seems to have dropped HomeKit support with absolutely no explanation or guidance. It says that updating the firmware requires removing the lights from my HomeKit home, which I’m not about to do after spending hours setting up dozens of complex scenes. I feel conned by SYLVANIA and frankly wish I had gone with their market-leading competitor.

Is this a joke? It is a disastrous mess

I have apple homekit. All of my bulbs were on the same firmware version before today. With the latest sylvania app now some seemed to update, some had updates fail. In no case does the app say what version of firmware is installed and what version it has been upgraded to. After updating a couple of them, I discover that the latest Sylvania software seems to say that it is no longer compatible with homekit. The ones that the app reportedly successfully updated still work on my network fortunately. Is sylvania abandoning apple? Wow! They are sticking a knife in the eye of many customers, who were probably happy with the product— until now.

HOMEKIT REMOVED?!
TuringKai

Do not update your devices! This update removed HomeKit support, so the bulbs will be useless despite spending hundreds of dollars on them. Goodbye SYLVANIA and hello Phillips from now on!

Buggy poorly written App and significant hardware limitations
Eric Summers

The new changes to the App were necessary for iOS users that have Alexa or Google Assistant, however this app is extremely buggy. It will often lockup with no feedback or act glitchy in general. HomeKit support for Sylvania lights and switches is very poorly implemented. Slow response/feedback in Home app. Recommended limitation of only 6 devices in HomeKit mode. No range extension in HomeKit mode. You basically have no choice but to use with Alexa or Google to get support for Bluetooth mesh technology for these devices to be halfway useful. The app changes are necessary to give some relevance to Sylvania products, but they need to do much better. I wouldn’t even recommend these products in an Alexa environment with the current quality of this app. In addition the toggle switches are a strange size that will not fit in standard decorator switch covers. There also is no support to link switches to allow something similar to a 3-way configuration. Sylvania should wait until they have a fully baked product before release...

new features for Bluetooth mesh
Applebeefan

Took a while to figure out what the new release offers but happy to find out that the updated app enable the bulb to connect to Alexa via Bluetooth mesh, pretty cool! By the way, if you want the bulb to work in Apple HomeKit, use the Apple Home app to control the bulb and only use the Sylvania smart home app to update the HomeKit software to n the bulb( don’t update the bulb software into Bluetooth mesh )

Works once you get the hang of it
Mike9763

I mainly used HomeKit with my sylvania smart bulbs but once I found out you can use google home with the sylvania app, I switched over to the sylvania app. It took a lot of practice and getting used to but once I got the hang of it, it worked great. And its also good to know that I can switch back to HomeKit whenever I’d like.

SYLVANIA app works great
Jeanfr30

You can now control your smart lamp with Google Home or Amazon Alexa. The SYLVANIA app also allows to update your devices by selecting Firmware Update Only. You can still use your devices on HomeKit if this is what you prefer.
