Simply touch a chord to hear how it sound like. Press the play button to hear the chord progression sequentially and adjust the playback speed.
You can work either forward or backward:
FORWARD - Pick a scale, then build your song from the chords that the app suggests. That's the quickest way to assemble chords that are compatible.
BACKWARD - From the catalog, pick a set of chords that you like. The app will tell you what scales it matches with. After you have selected the scale you want to use, the app can tell you what chords will fit in with the ones you entered before. That is extremely useful in jam sessions!
To spice things up, you can borrow chords from parallel scales.
You can also explore classic chord progressions.
Use Drag and Drop to reorder chords. Hold your finger on an item for a second to start the drag operation. On iPad, you can also drag chords directly from the suggestions to anywhere in your progression.
Swipe a chord from right to left to delete it.
When you're satisfied, save your experimentations for later reference. Export them by email using either a MIDI file or plain text. You can also open the MIDI file in another app.
Every sound generated with the app is also sent to the MIDI output, configurable in the Options. You can route these notes to another app on your device, an external MIDI port, or remotely to another computer by setting up a MIDI Network Session.
In the free version, some of these features are locked. Reach full productivity by purchasing a Full Unlock. You only need to buy it once for all your devices. To unlock your purchase on another device, select "Restore Purchases" in the Options.

My last review was premature. I actually got help from the developer who took the time to explain my problem and helped resolve. Very professional and I’m quite pleased with the app. Thanks again
Was wondering if it would be possible to add even more chords to the chord catalog like maj9#11 or 7sus13 for example.
i love this app dont get me wrong ive been using it for years in my songwriting as an outline but im still encountering a lot of bugs and with the new update and a lot has changed in the past three years of me using it the disappearance of the instrument feature makes it a bit harder to write some songs the new actions in ordering the chord progressions have confused me some of my documents just straight up disappear as soon as i make them those are pretty much my top concerns and again i still love the app its just hasnt been cutting it out so far
Useful, well designed, comprehensive. Active developer, frequent updates.
This app is so awesome for creating more interesting music compositions from the suggested chords. I have been using this for my songwriting and it has helped tremendously. I do wish there was an undo button because sometimes I’ll change something and wish I hadn’t and an undo option would be so nice! This app is great and I highly recommend it if your new to music theory or still learning advanced chord structures. Major time saver and easy to use. Thank you for making this app!!
The steady development and the amazing LACK of updates that break anything has made this my favorite developer to date. Always adding, never taking, never extorting, never making a new version or changing the name to wring more money out of me, and I couldn’t be more impressed. Thank you Mathieu.
I’ve been using Suggester on iOS & my Mac for a year & now with the AUv3 format it is clearly worth more than every penny. No other app offers this easy to use & comprehensive palette of extended (jazzy or classical sounding) chords, their functions & the ability to modulate keys & borrow chords from other scales & modes. Highly recommended.
It took me a little while and some communication with the programmer to realize the potential of this app. Now I think it is awesome! Previously I didn’t understand how easy it to find a great rhythm and chord progression. Then I realized that you can sort of jam with it. I select a scale, look at all the chords associated with that scale, and sort of tap around until on them till I find something that sounds good. Then I add those to the song. Then I change the rhythm around. That’s one way. Another way is to hang out on one chord for some beats, adding in sus, aug or dim here and there with rythms as well. Totally cool. Export, control devices, learn piano chords, all kinds of stuff. The only thing is you have to calculate the rythm to fit a time signature yourself, esp if you export. But not being limited to time signatures has advantages and takes music to a new level.
Clean & easy to use interface. I like this app the most because of its layout. It has some minor bugs, but otherwise works perfectly. I’ve never had a crash. I hope the developer plans on adding more scales and features.
The only thing I’d request is a “reverse chord generator” feature where users can play notes on a piano and the app can say what chords they’re thinking of/whether they fit Would also love to be able to change time signatures! Other than that zero complaints This is an excellent composition tool.
