Stop and Frisk Watch app allows bystanders to fully document stop-and-frisk encounters and alert community members when a street stop is in progress. It has three primary functions:
•Record: This allows the user to film an incident with audio by simply pushing a trigger on the phone’s frame. When filming stops, the user immediately receives a brief survey allowing them to provide details about the incident. The video and survey will go to the NYCLU, which will use the information to shed light on the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk practices and hold the Department accountable for its actions.
•Listen: This function alerts the user when people in their vicinity are being stopped by the police. When other app users in the area trigger Stop and Frisk Watch, the user receives a message reporting where the police stop is happening. This feature is especially useful for community groups who monitor police activity.
•Report: This prompts the survey, allowing users to report a police interaction they saw or experienced, even if they didn’t film it.
The app includes a “Know Your Rights” section that instructs people about their rights when confronted by police and their right to film police activity in public.
Stop and Frisk Watch is intended for use by people witnessing a police encounter, not by individuals who are the subject of a police stop.

This is a great app and the resource of having your rights on hand and in clear explanation is GREAT!! I educated some friends just from the view that were available. Please post more rights up PLEASE for any encounters with the law who are performing unprofessionally. Thanks again, you all are a big help!

STUPID!!!

Just don't break the law and you won't get stopped, when you film the police they can always arrest you for what the stopped you for, just remember a summons is in lieu of an arrest so a cop can just use his discretion to arrest you and should

Afraid
God913

I just download the app but I'm kind or afraid to use it due to what might happen if at that moment the police sees me recording and what might happen to me especially when I have an arrest in my pass it kind of intimidation those hand full of bad police that make not only me to be afraid to use these kind of evidence but other people too. Thanks GOD913

Not smart idea
Brooklyn rased

This app sounds like a good idea but its gonna get you hurt. Think about getting stopped by the police because they think you have a gun and you start putting your hands in your pocket and digging for your phone. Bad idea. I rather live another day and get stopped then get clocked or shot because of a phone app. Pass on this

Useless

useless app

Needed, simple, timely

This app is a great way to protect fellow citizens' civil rights and keep cops honest. Remember that it isn't to use if you are being randomly stopped, but I you witness a random stop. I really like the Listen function for CopWatch groups.

Great app for a better NYPD
LaLaLauren01

I like how simple and straight forward this app is so anyone can use it, but most of all I appreciate the principle behind it. Being a cop is no easy feat, bit effective policing is required to build relationships between officers and the communities they SERVE. The NYPD is NOT a perfect untouchable entity as it might want to present itself as, this app puts power in the hands of community members to report foul play when the witness it. I have no doubt this will be an effective tool in bringing about a better NYPD! Thank you,NYCLU!

Great
