Nice little game, but Cyan Worlds can do better than this

Cyan Worlds is a legend in the video games industry, as a result of the Myst series of games (Myst, Riven, Uru, etc) and while I certainly don't mind them branching out and trying some non-Myst games, "Stoneship" isn't quite what I had in mind. Gameplay: Fun, fairly interesting game design, but ultimately a bit too simple and repetitive to hold up over a long period of time. It's not bad, exactly, but the fun factor just can't be sustained over this many levels. Without more elements, more twists, more variations, this doesn't hold up more than a few hours. Add more diversity to the level design, and make the levels less similar, and this'll be a more fun game. 3/5 for gameplay. Graphics: These are nice graphics, but the cartoon style - even when done as well as it is here - is a pretty run-of-the-mill visual design choice. I've been spoiled by the realistic, detailed CG in Cyan's other games, as well as many other styles of eye-catching art, and cartoon graphics feel a bit ordinary to me now. Still, there are some nice animations and a few inventive touches here - from the rippling water effects to the map graphics which look like aged topographical maps - that lend this game an above-average amount of polish, especially when combined with the appealing sound effects. 4/5 for graphics and sound. All in all, I'd say this is a 3 1/2 or a 4. It's fairly good but isn't great, and though many of Cyan's fans here would list it as a "5" I can't honestly say it deserves that, though it might - possibly - become a 5-star app if more variety of content and strategic depth are implemented in future updates. I do think "Riven" will be a 5-star app. I do think Cyan can make an original non-Myst game that is worthy of 5 stars. But this isn't it - it's a "pretty good" game from a developer that ought to be making *great* games.

Decent reveal the map strategy/puzzle game with a slight mini-game twist in combat. If it wasn't for the whimsical pirate theme, I wouldn't have bought this at this price. Even then, unless the developer holds true to the updates promised and maybe some new additions, I'm not sure the $2.99 introductory price is marketable for the picky consumer as it made me think twice and I consider myself an impulsive app shopper.

Fun game with a minesweeper feel and little mini games. Definitely repetitive, but still provides a fun experience. However, any fun there is, is immediately overshadowed by abrupt crashes and inability to continue from where the game dropped. Hard to enjoy a game where you spend a huge chunk of time setting up for the pirate attack and when it's supposed to start, game crash. Not worth $3 at this time.

Seems almost pointless. I'm disappointed. How about a rule book, so it doesn't turn into a thousand trials and errors. Bummer.

Crashes every time I attempt to continue campaign. Garbage beta app. Plz fix. Reinstalled still crashes every time. iPod 3rd gen. I actually got to play. The whole game is like a scratch of lottery game. The only reason those are good is u could win dough. You can't win nothing here it's pointless. Scratch and reveal over and over. Battles are so lame. No aiming no skill predetermined victor bases on numbers. Change the battles or else this stays 1 star it deserves 0.

Crashed within 5 min of first use and again every 5-10 since. What a piece of crap. I want a refund!
