Poor performance over and over again

Marcalamari

Conceptually, I love this product and app but it’s actual user experience is a joke. The device continues to lack knowledge to sync when I am wearing the device and keeping the app running 24/7. It’s like it chooses when it wants to work. They really need to fix the issue with poor data syncing. It’s a frustrating experience to deal with most of the time.

Infrequent updates and inconsistent tracking

sethjamesthomas

It seems like Spire has shelved updating this project, with no substantive updates in months. The device itself tracks inconsistently. No matter where it’s placed, I get the notice to “reposition your spire”. Following the steps, positioning exactly where they say, doesn’t change this annoying refrain. I keep hoping this app/device will do what it claims, but find it only adds to anxiety or shortness of breath because of poor functioning. Bummer.

It's fine, but doesn't let you export data

Steamfire

This update still ignores the completely useless broken interface for Tagging events. You can pick from only 4 predefined tags, or write your own free-form. But here's the catch- it won't let you simply choose one of your prior custom tags, nor will it autocomplete them, so you have to type the whole thing in correctly every time. Couple that with no ability to export the data or search or compare by tag, and this feature is useless.

Recent update makes the app crash on my iPhone regularly now.

Less and less good

mswee10

It’s super helpful when it’s working right. But it stops working almost daily now. Also, it doesn’t ever track activity minutes accurately at all. Many times it will say that I was only active for a few minutes out of the entire day but that I took 6000 steps. Customer support says I need to reset my phone, but that seems a little extreme. I’d rather you just fix the app!!! Please fix the bugs!!

Constantly need to manually open app

tychadwell

I constantly need to open the app in order for real-time feedback, making this device essentially worthless for recognizing stressful moments and being able to tell myself to relax. It’d be one thing if the app warned that it was no longer active, but it doesn’t.

Absolutely amazing!

Spire has changed my life around! I suffer from anxiety and the one thing everyone told me was "just breathe". And I never thought much of it, like yeah ok breath, that will help... Whelp, my aunt Chris did a lot of research on what would be good to help me deal with stress and anxiety. She came across SPIRE and after hours of reading reviews, blogs and videos about it, she decided to surprise me with it. At first I was no way will this help.... Well after 5 days of using this amazing this device I can honestly say I love it!!! I am now so focused on my breathing, daily routines, and everyday tasks and with Spire it really works great!! I sleep better at night, I'm more focused at work, I now meditation using Spire. Just wanted to say thank you. I hope someone gets to read this;). You're team, and you sweet little calming device has changed me. I no longer drink, no longer smoke cigarettes (only if I had a beer) (still no excuse). I'm eating healthier, now walking everywhere. I can go on and on but my SPIRE just notified me that I have been sitting to long, I'm going to go stretch my legs and get some fresh air. Thank you so much;).

I love it when it's working. Which is half the time

This is a great gadget. The hardware seems to do what it's advertised to do and do it well. The app is ok when it works. It's not clear enough - overly complex in some ways while not giving enough info in others. The BIG PROBLEM though is the app is lousy at restarting itself after iOS kills it. And iOS WILL kill it to free up resources. The whole reason why this app needs to know your location all the time is so it can restart itself when you move. This is the typical iOS app solution for apps that need to keep running to gather data. Unfortunately this app doesn't do it correctly and hasn't managed to get it right even though the problem has existed for YEARS. I've reported this several times to no avail.

Could be better

DuskyChaos

Buggy app. I want to love this, but as I speak I have the spire resting on a countertop and it is still tracking breathing. I have also exercised heavily and it does not track those periods of time. Great concept, just a long way to go.

Great when it is paired, annoying and time consuming otherwise.

CheeseMomma

I purchased the Spire stone for help with anxiety, which it did great for the first few days. I guess it became accustomed to my breathing patterns, and hasn’t vibrated for a few months. Oh well. I have a record of my tense/active/focus moments throughout the day. However, in the past 3 days, my Spire stone has become unpaired to my phone three times, with no warning and no change to settings or app. It’s difficult to re-pair, but I think I have finally figured out (after much frustration and time!) that the secret is to uninstall then reinstall the app, shut the phone completely off, then restart the phone. Inconvenient? Absolutely. Annoying? You bet! Do I have the time to continue to check to see if my Spire is still paired? Rarely. Will I continue to use the Spire stone? Yes, until I can find a reliable alternative, at which point the device will be retired and the app deleted.
