When was the last time you hit the gym? Or read a book? If you want to do more, SPAR is a game changer. It's a fun game that keeps you accountable, where you pay your friends if you slack off.
How it works:
1. Challenge your friends to do something with money on the line
2. Prove you did the activity with fun video check-ins
3. Winner claims the pot of money from the slackers
Get better together
Challenge up to 5 friends and keep each other motivated - or take their money.
This app IMMEDIATELY hacked our credit card!!!! Do NOT DO THIS!!!!!
I love the idea of the application but as a User, the design and functionality leaves a lot to be desired. You have to hunt for Host items, you can only load a video, and you have to scroll for days reading items in the chat. Also it’s easy to accidentally delete your check in. Finally— it’s been down or slow performance multiple days. I won’t be back after this challenge.
When I try to check in for the challenge, the app won’t stay open.
The app frequently crashes. Too many users on too few servers or bad bugs in the app. You can’t always accurately record check ins because of these inconsistencies. It’s a fun idea for sure! And can really hold you accountable. Someone will come out with a better user friendly version.
The app has been good for the past few weeks, but now the app continuously crashes before I can post my check-in for a challenge. I made sure the app was the updated, restarted my phone, the whole nine yards. If I have a “miss” today because I’m not able to post due to the app not working, I’m going to be really upset.
I really, REALLY wish they’d fix the ios13 issues with dark mode. I’m a huge fan of dark mode, and until they update it, I have to change it back to light to read the text on the app. It’s a small thing overall because I love the app and the challenges, the people in the community are really great, it’s a net positive - just fix the app issues and I promise I’ll come back and drop that fifth star. ????????
This app is a great concept in theory but lousy in UI and UX execution It freezes almost every time I open it, often forcing a restart. Sometimes videos upload, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes you can watch other videos, sometimes you can’t. It’s so buggy and glitchy that I’m almost going to give up. There were days I would check in and my circle would never turn black, but then 30 seconds later it would give me credit for a day I hadn’t yet completed in the future. Literally every time you refresh the app, the information is different. But my biggest pet peeve about this app is the fact that you can’t see the metrics. You can’t have an app where money is the motivating factor, and yet, not disclose the number of people participating. The fact that you cannot see the number of people in a challenge and the number left, without painfully counting down a (sometimes very long) list is ridiculous!! And then every single day in the chat someone asks how many people are in it, or how many are left. SPAR claims they want it to be about accountability and making good habits and not about money, but money IS by and large the factor! It just is! There are plenty of other accountability apps out there but none that I know of that actually charge money. It seems a bit shady for them not to present that information up front. I also had no idea that they took a cut. I “won” $5 recently but was only awarded $3.64. Where did that extra money go? I had no idea they took a cut since it’s not disclosed anywhere. I was super excited to start using this app but unless these things are changed, I’m deleting it.
The Spar app has potential. It’s still has glitches to work out. During my challenge there was a day I couldn’t upload which was frustrating. It was fixed by the developer but it’s things like that or when I open the app and it freezes that I see how it has a ways to go. I have the new iPhone 11 with the latest software and when I open the app sometimes it reads my status as “gave up”, not sure why. My challenge is also over but I didn’t get the payout and one of the people mentioned that you don’t get the full payout, the developer keeps a percentage which was not mentioned when you sign up. That seems a little shady but it was worth trying once. I probably won’t use again until they get the app fully functional.
I used this app by participating in the Fab Four Smoothie Challenge and it definitely helped build a good habit of drinking a daily smoothie for breakfast. There was an issue one day of not being able to upload a video but it was resolved quickly and we got a free check in pass so we wouldn’t be charged.
This app was great for accountability and I love the idea of a tiny cash incentive! There were tiny bugs with the app that the customer service team handled super promptly! I do think it was a little unclear on how to get started so I think that could be clearer. Also their FAQ page is very transparent, but since no one reads that, my first challenge had a lot of confused finishers. The money slowly comes in your account as they charge people so everyone was demanding their full winnings immediately. I will definitely do another challenge!
