"Short" but great

TheGameMaster1234

Game plays sort of like a Choose Your Own Adventure, and is executed very well. Combat feels less of an action sequence and more of a puzzle, which actually fits the theme really well. Game is short but provides tons of replay value as you try to find all the various secrets and paths you can take, along with providing a goal for it all - getting a really good character to bring into the sequel. Be warned that a lot of this game is reading. While I like it because it lets my mind visualize the environment, some may not.

Nostalgic and awesome!

I still have the original books from this series and seeing it come to life on my tablet is simply amazing. Truly captures the spirit of the original books for a new generation. Overall, a nice adaptation and very enjoyable for fans of the fighting fantasy genre.

Interesting Approach

Bob from Lancaster, NY

I stumbled upon a review of the Sorcery 3 and the Sorcery series from Steve Jackson Games. I grew up with SJG (who remembers Car Wars!) and thought I'd give this a try. As a kid, I remember reading the occasional "choose your path" type adventure books. I can't say that I though they were great. but I did enjoy them. I think the way SJG / Inkle appraoched making a smartphone app from the Sorcery series was acqually quite amazing. The combined reading an interactive decisions and pseudo-role playing was fun and enjoyable. I was surprised, however, how short the game was. For $4.99, it was far too short and not good value at all. Yes, it was an enjoyable experience, but my goodness Sorcery was over very quickly. I've taken one star off because of that. The thing is, because of the poor value, I won't be buying the other chapters. The value proposition was just too low. yes, I enjoyed the game, but not enough to pay $4.99 for the next two chapters and beyond. My hats off to Inlke for their ingenuity. I'd ask they'd rethink their pricing strategy, but i'm sure it's working for them or else they'd have changed it by now. A nostalgic throwback and interesting but overpriced app. (if the story line was far longer and more immersive, that'd be a different outcome. But given how short it is, it's just not worth the $.)

A Short but Fun Game

I enjoyed the game. It is text based. You read the story and choose what to do next. It takes between 2-3 hours to complete. Although I enjoyed the game, I won't be spending any more money on the next two games. Perhaps if they were only $2-3.

Sorcery

Ghost of Grove

Rather disappointing for the price. This is the old Zork with a few pictures. The few decisions you do get to make really do not change the story much. There are not many places to get rations, so if your stamina is low, you can't do anything about it.

Very short for $5

People kept saying this game was short, it is. I beat it in one sitting and now regret paying $5 for this. At $1 or $2 I would feel better but you'll end up spending $15 or more to finish the series

Not even the beginning of a game

Chaswick123456

Bought because 80 days was so awesome. Thoroughly disappointed as I thought this was a full game, was done in maybe 2 hours. Not worth it, play 80 days instead. Almost would ask for my money back, it was so short and so expensive.

Amazing!

Jakobe49

I was savoring in the story, short but I'm glad I got the bundle

Short, but vital prelude to Sorcery! 2

Mangerine

Like a lot of people, I was surprised at how quickly it was over. But then I carried my character over to Sorcery! 2 and had one of the best gaming experiences of my life. Like, Morrowind good. Try this out - if you like the appetizer, know that a feast awaits in the sequel, and that $10 for the two games is totally, totally worth it. Downloading part 3 as I type this.

A tad repetitive

Cool concept, particularly if you like the old text based adventure games. Drawings are appropriate and fun. Hard to stay interested though, which is a huge shame. Only played to the end -- which is totally anti-climactic, by the way -- because I had paid for the game. Glad I didn't go for the multi-pack.
