An ingenious dictionary/thesaurus

GhostDarkZero

This App is literally the best dictionary I have ever used. My only complaint was the outdated interface, however the update is finally here and it looks and feels fantastic. I totally recommend this dictionary/thesaurus for anyone that’s looking for a fast, reliable dictionary with a clean interface. Amazing job guys!

Perfect for writers, extra features are awesome

kailcleo

This isn’t just your typical thesaurus. It has so many features like “similar words”, “sounds like” words, “related” “broader” “narrower” and my favorite part is they even have a “rhyme” list for each word (well, not every word has every feature because that’s impossible, but fantastic amount of features for every word). The developers are clearly very creative and don’t just give the typical dictionary responses, i imagine a group of ten plus people around a table, brainstorming and thinking of every possible word they can to add to all the lists available. This is PERFECT for any author, a poet, song writer, novelist, even a textbook writer. The app has such in depth features that you will find the word you are looking for every time- you will probably find a better word than you wanted in the first place and find new words too. I love exploring it when I have free time to teach myself new words, it even has a little speech button to press and quickly hear the word pronounced. It’s very accessible and simple to use and look at. Clean interface, neat set up. It’s not a “fancy” looking app at all, but I prefer the simplicity of this app. It’s so fantastic it doesn’t need fancy bells and whistles to confuse things. Recommend for any writer or a student writing essays, or anyone who has to write up reports or anything in their daily job/life. It will make your life easier and your writing so much better, and more unique. You will be using words you don’t hear often in no time, and word choice can make an okay piece of writing into a strong piece of writing quickly. Great for musicians or poets who are trying to find a word to rhyme with something that they don’t want to change (I hate when I feel like I have to change my word choice because I’m going to break my rhyme scheme because of it...not anymore!)

FINALLY—a *native* app! But…

Belonky

The single BEST thesaurus (at least, for when synonym breadth and diversity are valued over accuracy and precision of fit) is *FINALLY* available as a native app! However, a concurrent (and, frankly, not necessarily unwise) simplification of the UI removed a substantial amount of functionality from the historically feature-rich app, rendering in the process the app-based thesaurus significantly hobbled relative to its web counterpart in ways that, unfortunately, have resulted in a profound reduction in usability of the app’s core function: finding the right synonym for a word. See, due to the fundamental design philosophy of the *crowd-sourced* thesaurus—opting to increase the sheer volume and variety of synonyms at the expense of how tightly they hew to the meaning, sense, and context of the seed word—the ability to winnow the resulting synonym list by various criteria was crucial to effective use of the thesaurus. And that’s exactly the functionality that’s apparently been removed: the capability to sort, search through, or filter (by anything other than part of speech) synonym results. I hope that a restoration of these features—preferably alongside a thoughtful redesign of the otherwise crowded UI still evident in the web app—is on the immediate agenda. I’d happily pay up to $4.99 for an In-App Purchase to permanently remove ads and enable these and other “advanced” features—though, frankly, as already mentioned, these missing features are rather integral to the basic use of the app, so perhaps they *shouldn’t* be paywalled behind an IAP. (Might I suggest instead wildcard/Boolean search and/or result filtration as an advanced feature worth paying for and a natural focal point for a premium-tier IAP upgrade?) Anyway, thanks for an otherwise great—if exceptionally overdue—*NATIVE* Power Thesaurus iOS app!

Please allow removal of ads

benvhoff

Really helpful. (They responded. Planning to add no ads option to pro users) Please keep this app available even if ads have to stay,

Needs to bring back certain features!

Heininger!

I have used Power thesaurus very actively over the past year. However with their new update they have taken away the feature that helps with alliteration or comparing synonymous with words of the same first letters. In my line of work this is very beneficial to me. If this feature does not return soon I will be forced to use another thesaurus application!

Please Restore the List Search Feature

Isaiah 4031

I have used this app and told others about it for a few years. The greatest feature, which set it apart, was the ability not only to search for synonyms of the main word, but then to organize the search results by the first letter. In previous versions this was easily done by simply typing the letter I needed the word to start with in the list search box. Please restore this feature and it will immediately become a 5 star app once again!

Man on TV

The Free Dictionary has a lot of things to it but it’s no where near as SLEEK and POLISHED as this app. I’ve used TFD for about a year and really like how you can have your own profile with previous words searched and sort of like a rank up system; it’s not necessary but it’s a nice addition. POWER THESAURUS could hands down be the best - there’s just no ability to favorite words and revert back to that pool. If it had that along with maybe like a mind map feature for brainstorming or linking ideas - it’d be perfect. I got this on my phone and on the iPad an use em both.. pretty much daily. Think of somethin, buss it out, so good. Like easy to look at, sleek, no clutter. Just smooth I love typing phrases or little idioms and getting so many results that help to word things better for emails or just learning. I’ve tried other Thesaurus’s/Dictionaries but none have as many phrases that can be applied in everyday interaction. TFD has foreign words, good but it’s not something I could really take advantage of or benefit from. * Update * We neeed favorites, for real. A lot of the time when I’m searching something I just keep thinking about it like, man I wish I could just save these ones an come back later instead of having to take note an write everything down. But I know y’all are still tryin to make everything come together. The new logo looks great too btw. It fits so well with everything being way more responsive and smooth. I see these changes man, c’mon.. you want that last star you’re gonna have to let us save. On scale though, I’d prolly give y’all a 9. Great job so far.

One of the best apps. Period.

andrew3g

Not only is this the best thesaurus/dictionary app out there, it's also simply one of the best apps I've ever used - period. Clean, fast, simple UI, sooo much depth of content. You could spend hours looking into a single word with the amount of content this app generates. Can't recommend it enough for any writer.

Well made and has earned a five star rating

Frostbound

This app helps someone pick out the perfect word they never knew existed to begin with! It is helpful for authors attempting to write a book, but can’t find the exact word they are thinking of- now they have more options then they know what to do with! Fantastic app?

GAME CHANGER!!!!!
