Works great except when it doesn't.

I love using the app to record things. It's way easier than fighting to get on the desktop. The only problem is that when the app freezes, my phone freezes up too. My phone continues to act up until I quit the app. Fix that and I'd easily give this five stars.

Being on a satellite internet connection has its drawbacks, such as having a limited amount of bandwidth per month. The Playon service lets me record from the major streaming sites during the free data window of my satellite service between midnight and 6am. I can then watch them when I want on any of my devices. Video quality is very good and recordings start and stop as programmed during the night. Works flawlessly!

The app sounds like a great idea, however it's as poor of an execution as the PC app. After hours of tweaking, failure to connect is more often than not.

They took a real step back when they moved from playlater. To playon. Transferring files takes more steps and it lacks the the functionality of playon. You can't create folders and playback functions don't exist.
Casting never works

I've tried casting to my Chromecast countless times and it always say "lost connection".

This app and the desktop version is really quite amazing. This along with the desktop version turns your computer into a media server. And it allows you to skip all the commercials. Even though it records the commercials, the playback lets you skip all the ads. So nice! Also if you have limited / metered bandwidth at home you can set it to download in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep and not using bandwidth. My one major request is please please make an Apple TV version and enable me to sling directly to my Apple TV. It has that ability for my Roku but I just retired my Roku and upgraded to Apple TV. Other feature requests that would make this wonderful app even better: ** Add more networks that other cable providers open up access to called “TV Anywhere.” I know PlayOn supports quite a few but there are a lot more. TV Anywhere from my cable provider lets me watch FOXNOW, FX NOW, TBS, USA Network, TNT, A&E, NAT GEO TV, ESPN, BBC America, Paramount, ID GO, Discovery Discovery, Life, HGTV, Fox News, Travel Channel, Hallmark Channel, Vineland, Sci Go, SYFY, Animal Planet, ABC, NBC, and the list goes on... I’d like to be able to record all of these. ** Enable users to also use VidAngel which streams shows that you can cut out content you find offensive and enable you to watch more shows with your kids. VidAngel software is low quality and doesn’t enable downloading. I would much rather use the high quality apps that PlayOn builds. I’ve been a big fan of PlayOn for years and have a lifetime subscription to the PlayOn desktop. I recently retired my old Roku 2 and upgraded to Apple TV 4K. I was bummed to learn the PlayOn Mobile doesn’t have the ability sling from my computer directly to AppleTV (though I could for my Roku, I guess because they made a PlayOn Mobile app for Roku but not yet for AppleTV). I thought I was going to be out of luck but was happy to stubmle upon the other PlayOn Cloud app which lets me sling from my iPad to my Apple TV. Should you ever need it, PlayOn customer support is absolutely top-notch. I haven’t had to use it for this app but I’ve had technical issues with the Desktop version on my windows computer and PlayOn technicians are always super fast to get a problem resolved even when it’s caused by some other software like Comodo internet causing a conflict. Quit reading and download this app now or check out the PlayOn Cloud app.
Good but needs work

Overall the app functions as promised. I am able to start recordings remotely and watch content. However, it would be nice if support for the iPhone X was added. The app also doesn’t always work right when streaming to an Apple TV. I have found you need to mirror the entire screen not just the player. Otherwise it drops the connection after a few minutes.
