A great and important work demeaned

BDHowell

The OED is the benchmark by which all other English dictionaries are judged. It is the ultimate arbiter of usage, pronunciation, and etymology of our language. I use it daily in some form, whether print or digital. It is a vital tool for many writers. So, why only a three-star rating? Simply, because the company tasked with producing the digital version of the essential and estimable work has included an extremely annoying, self-indulgent, feature: the app periodically requests a five-star rating via a cheesy, simpering pop-up. There is no provision to cancel future pop-up recurrences without landing on the app's App Store rating and feedback pages and entering a rating. Hence mine. It's true that if you do click the pop-up, you are actually free to rate the app as you desire. And the work in its own merit is unquestionably worthy of five stars. Nonetheless, the experience of being repeatedly begged for adulation is enough of displeasure that I am impelled to downgrade my rating, at least for now: The feature is unworthy of the OED and should be forthwith removed.

Great asset

Edmd1

Having this quick, concise and very complete app is essential to my job. I have to be mobile and also do a lot of writing. The thesaurus is indispensable.

Perfect

Noornan

Have no problems with this dictionary. Thesaurus is great too.

The best

OBXAERO

Of the electronic dictionary options, this is easily the best.

Very Useful

Tacon

A great reminder of the meaning of words you do not use every day.

It just works

CW Luikart

Outstanding and highly usable app that just works. I do a lot of heavy academic writing at a graduate level and manuscript preparation for peer-review journal submission, and I benefit greatly from this app.

Great, and improved UI

Shred_till_I’m_dead

All you expect from the OED. The only thing I can complain about is the default start on the thesaurus. In fact, I’d probably prefer to see the dico and thesaurus entries integrated into the same view. But that’s a minor consideration.

The best

Larry Apple

The best, most authoritative dictionary I know. I use it everyday.

Proven By The Test Of Time

Arnie53

Want the best dictionary of true English? I do. And I’ve been born, raised, and retired in New England these sixty five years. Enough said.

Terrible interface

piontoto

Why does the virtual keyboard disappear when I delete a previous word in the search box and try to type the new word I want to know about? That’s very frustrating. Good dictionary & terrible interface. What a wonderful combination it is!
