I had an old secondhand iPhone 4 that gave me years of audiobook satisfaction, thanks to Overdrive being smoothly backwards compatible

I love listening to audiobooks while commuting, walking and doing daily chores (especially cooking). I had a subscription to audible for years, the cost of audiobooks can be quite expensive, so learning that my local library system was able to lend audiobooks through this app was an amazing find for me. I used to be limited to one book a month with my audible subscription, now I listen to about 4 books a week with OverDrive. The advanced search feature is fantastic, and it’s easy to set filters for genre, author, level, language, etc. You can also see books that aren’t owned by your library system & recommend them easily. Placing holds & items to your wishlist is also simple. If you love audiobooks (and your local library is linked) this app is for you.

I adore that you can connect to multiple libraries and I have yet to search for a book that wasn’t available (although occasionally there’s a waitlist, I’v always gotten the book I wanted within a week or so!) Also awesome that loads of audiobooks are available too, and if you don’t have kindle you can download them straight thru the Overdrive app and just read/listen on your phone!

I love the idea of this app and I love it when it works. My only complaint is that I am very frequently logged out and I have to dig out my library card and go through all the hoops to log back in (which are significant given my funky local library system).

I love the ability to access public libraries on my phone. I even love that there’s a loan period and that it shows whether I’ve read a book, but a couple features could be better. I wish I could read the book on the app and not a browser (because it changes the format), or another reading app like kindle. It would be great if the app were truly independent. The user interface could be a little cleaner. There are a couple ways to search for books and it seems a bit circular. I also wish it would better label the book number of the series. When I stumble upon a new series I want to read, they are not in order and I find myself opening each one just to find the first book. It would also be great if one day this app linked with my actual library account so I could see which physical books I need to return and how much I need to pay for overdue books (if any). Overall though, this app is a beautiful thing and I am very happy it was introduced to me.

I have used overdrive for years and have loved it! Recently whenever I stop and start an audiobook it skips back at least 2 minutes to start up again, super frustrating. Otherwise awesome!

Overdrive is my most used app; love it. I can hear fabulous stories on my commute to work, while exercising, gardening, and working in my house.
