Pretty good app

I like fruit

Overall I think the app functions really well. It’s easy to navigate also. One wish is that it could give you an option to filter your popular articles feed by monitoring the articles you click. Also wish there was an “Environment” tab on the topics page. Maybe in a future version.

Killing my battery...

The Actual Skinny Pete

Background activity of this app is draining 45-50% of my battery over the course of 30 minutes. What on earth is it even doing?

Does Not Work!

EJ7339

Lately this app intermittently stopped streaming our local station-OPB. Then, it stopped streaming OPB all the rime. It won’t stream through my wife’s phone either. Now, we’re listening to OPB on the radio. Poor app.

Gone from buggy to unusable

If you have an iPhone I would recommend you not even bother trying to use this (cr)app. I’ve been using this app for several years to listen to local and national public radio stations, as well as read quick headlines. It has always been fairly buggy, dropping streams or just not connecting. It had seemed to be improving until this last week or so, and I appreciated the stability. It is has become my primary way to consume NPR and local radio station content. Now it is so broken it is not worth using, and I’m wondering if I really need to continue contributing to NPR as a supporter, if they are going to waste funds on worthless apps. Now my closest local station, OPB, never works. When I play it, I get the (annoying) bumper ad but then nothing—just “dead air”. My next most local station, KUOW, does work, but drops every few minutes, usually for a few seconds and then repeating the (ever annoying) bumper ad—leading me to think the connection was broken and reconnected. It often just stops for no reason. I can click the Play button on my iPhone’s lock screen or my Apple Watch, which usually does nothing, then I have to unlock phone, go to the app and press play or try restarting app. These issues occur all the time now, and with multiple locations—different Wi-Fi networks and using cellular data. So it is not just my network.

No issues

No issues to report so far, and NPR is a trusted source.

Good news app

asdryvdc

I tried many different news app before. I understand that it is very difficult to find an unbiased news app. I like NPR because it is relatively much more subjective than the other ones.

It’s been mostly stable for a few months dare I request dark mode

Audionews

PLEASE SUPPORT DARK MODE Fixed again, thanks. Now the home page is frozen and won’t reload news stories. How about a new app developer that is up to the standards of Npr’s news!?? It’d be great to get more than a week of a functioning app. Issue archive- ...update... it appears a silent push fixed two of three of these. At least the worst was fixed. Changes to the playlist while listening still glitches the playback. Three issues: Playlist or listen to all stops after each story once screen sleeps or another app is active Deleting a story while listening to others glitches what is currently playing. This is an old bug that hasn’t been addressed. The player isn’t grabbing the audio function from the iPhone so what should pause the playback either with wired headphone button or Bluetooth actually starts Music rather than stopping NPR (NPR does stop as Music takes over) pushing again to resume NPR then just pauses Music. While NPR plays, swiping down to view controls shows Music as what is playing rather than NPR. Possibly related to the first issue. Same for lock screen, can’t even push play without unlocking...

Stream shuts off when screen is off or I’m not viewing the app

Papatheosis

I love NPR, but you made it so the stream shuts off when I switch to another app. Why? And when I click the screen off, or when it turns itself off, the stream dies. Why? FIX THIS.

So Frustrating

trishH2O

This app continues to fail. The ability to live stream is so inconsistent. It seems to always be buffering.

I want this to work like the iPad app

Bleeber

This used to allow me to listen to Scott Simon while traveling. I could go back a listen to a topic again. How in the world could anyone think these NPR apps do anything a listener (and loyal donor for decades) would want instead. I often think app decisions are made in technical bubbles designing for each other not us. DI NOT TOUCH THE IPAD APP!!!
