It is the only complete, truly portable GPS navigation solution for iPod touch, featuring a built-in GPS Receiver, Rechargeable Battery, Amplified Speaker, and a Windshield Mount. It is ideal for in-car or handheld use - like biking, hiking or exploring a city on foot. In addition to the included NavAtlas navigation app, the Cradle provides GPS coordinates to most other location-based apps. Visit GPSCradle.dualav.com for more information on app compatibility.

The NavAtlas app has all of the features commonly found in GPS navigation devices. The latest U.S. and Canada maps from Navteq™ are built-in, so there is no need for a Wi-Fi connection. There is no subscription fee - the app is free for use with the Cradle.

NavAtlas Demo Version

It would be nice to have a demo version before putting up $200 for the hardware.

Waste of money
Mystical Donkey

You can buy a Tom Tom or Garmin portable GPS for half the price of the hardware needed to make this work. The hardware costs as much as an iPod touch and it's useless for an iPhone.

I think this sounds like a great idea, it does sound pricey but at does provide a battery pack for your ipod and I don't know about you but I don't take a Garmin or Tom Tom with me everywhere i go, but I do have my iPod Touch. I am a gadget kind of person though. I think this would be quite a handy personal navigation device to be added to an already tremendously useful iPod. Espically if you are going to an unfimular place, you can use it to get you there and to get around, even if you didn't use there if you got lost you could use it to find your way back to where you want to be. I want an iPhone really bad, this almost gives me second thoughts about it. If only the iPod Touch had a camera.

Perfect!

I have been looking for something like this, can't wait until it's out!

WAY to big!
Charlie From NH

It SAYS its 1.98 gigs, but its actually more like 2.11 gigs. Takes forever to transfer so I removed it.

Not for sale yet but I have a friend on "the inside"! This is a work of ART! Love it. You should not rate the software until you have a chance to use it!!

Naff App

What a Naff App, the things what should be in the App are missing so basic that I may just go and use MotionX, come on get your fingers out and make it like it should be.

A Garmin and Golf GPS in one
Dap68

Just got the module in the mail and it works like a charm. Routes the same as my Garmin for my wifes car, except this app has turn by turn text to speech voice directions, my wifes nuvi 200 does not. The unit has a mic for iPods with microphone support and a speaker that can also be used for music if you have a 1st Gen touch. When using the car adaptor both the cradle and ipod are powered. Works with all golf apps that do not require wi-fi. Picked up airview for $9.99 and you will have a full featured range finder that also keeps score. The module can also be used as a hand held navigator with the right app. The only downfall is that the battery in this unit will not power your touch and the GPS module at the same time. Make sure you have a full charge before you play a round. Update: Played a round with airview and this GPS is spot on, airview had a few issues but the GPS is rock solid. Better then my friends skycaddie. ipod and cradle made it through a whole round with battery to spare. With better management I could have probably played 36. This unit will take the place of a $300 golf range finder without annual fees and a $180 Garmin that does text to speech and $150 handheld navigator. Great deal for anyone with an iPod Touch. You are out of luck if you have a 1st Gen iPhone, but you should have upgraded that anyway. Free Nav app is great for GPS enabled iPhones since it is not tied to the purchase of this cradle.

Certainly an option to consider!

After 7 years of good service, my TomTom finally gave up on me. I decided to buy the iTouch cradle and to transform my old 1st-gen iTouch into a dedicated GPS. Overall, it works quite well ! GPS hardware is certainly worth a four stars for precision and reliability. It may take from 30 sec to 3-4 minutes to "fire up" the GPS and get a reliable signal though. It's made of cheap plastic, so I am not sure it will last as long as my old TomTom. Not that excited by the NavAtlas dedicated software (I would give it a two stars), especially if you come from a TomTom (and I guess a Garmin) experience. Maps are up-to-date, but there is certainly a LOT of room left for improvement with the interface/options. As an example, the "GPS signal strength" icon appears only if you have a route planned. Also, planning a route is not as intuitive as with a TomTom or Garmin. Of note: when I was prompted for NavAtlas installation on my 1st-gen iTouch, I had to free ~5 GB (!) of memory for installation procedures (you get 3 GB back at the end). I think you can use the cradle with other dedicated iTouch/iPhone GPS softwares.

NavAtlas map is lousy
oldcat88

The NavAtlas map shows my 20-year-old house in the wrong place and my son's 100-year-old house street as non-existing. The online map from NavTeq is ok. No instructions as to how to mark favorite, in fact no instructions at all. 3D display shown in advertisements seems not to exist, at least for Austin TX.
